Cell Phone Tracking Saves the Day

Earlier this month, A Nebraska man’s life was saved thanks, in part, to cell phone tracking.

The man called the police in the wee hours of the morning, using his cell phone, to tell them that he had been in an accident. Unfortunately, the man had been drinking and the police believe that the use of alcohol contributed to the accident.  The man told police what he thought was his location. In addition to be being affected by the alcohol, he was in pain from injuries he suffered as a result of the crash.

The police went to the area the man indicated and found no one. In his unstable condition, the man was confused, and did not know where he actually was. The police continued to search because it was imperative that they reach the injured man as soon as possible.

About 14 minutes after the man’s initial call, the police decided to employ GPS technology. The dispatcher was able to pinpoint the man’s location by tracing the signal that came from his cell phone. And this is what made all the difference. Not only was the man not where he thought he was, he was also not readily visible since his car had plunged into a ravine.  Once he was found, the man was treated at a local hospital and released. Who knows just how long he would have been in the ravine, out of sight, if they had not thought to locate him using his cell phone signal?

You may not experience something so very dramatic and dangerous as this (we certainly hope not), but that doesn’t mean that you cannot benefit from GPS tracking.

You, your teenage children, your older relatives or anyone else you care about can be helped by GPS tracking because it can find people when time is precious.

And if you run a business then you know how important it is to know where your employees or products are at a given time.

RMT: Great products and great service

How many times have you purchased a product, excited about how using it was going to change your life or streamline business processes, only to find that you couldn’t find a way to get it to work properly. Maybe the instructions were unclear or vague. Or, perhaps you managed to put it together or install it, only to find that it did not give you the information you were looking for. Or even if the information was there, you didn’t know how to retrieve it or it came put in some unreadable format.

Sometimes none of the above happens, you can understand the instructions and you get your new purchase is installed, but you find that it conks out on you rather quickly.

This is not the kind of frustration that customers of Rocky Mountain Tracking experience. We spend a lot of time testing tracking products to make certain that we offer our customers only the products that really work. We actually reject a high percentage of products because they simply do not provide the kind of quality service we want to give. In fact we put products through a rigorous 15 point quality check.

Getting the tracking information you want does require some effort on your part, but it should not require so much effort that is interferes with other activities. GPS tracking is a way to make your life and business tasks easier. We look for and offer tracking software that is.

In addition to user-friendly software and products, we also offer top notch customer service. Every company the sells you tracking software does not do this. Some of them are retailers only: they will sell you a product, but they do not have the infrastructure to help you use it and respond to your questions or concerns. Rockly Mountain tracking will not only sell you a great GPS tracking product, we will help you make the most of your purchase.

GPS Tracking Helps Investigators

A recent online clip from a news show reminded me that professionals and everyday citizens use GPS tracking to get to the bottom of things. In the clip, a news team spoke with private investigators who said that GPS tracking devices were great for business because they made it that much easier for them to follow and find people their clients ask them to investigate.  Police have also found tracking devices to be very useful. This technology provides evidence that can be used as proof in certain cases.

This is not to say that law enforcement officials or private investigators are not highly skilled at what they do, because they are. The option to employ GPS technology helps them do their jobs that much better and in some cases it may help them get the information that they need that much faster. Instead of tailing a suspect for days on their own, they can rely on the GPS tracking device to feed them crucial information. We aren’t saying that the days of the stake out are over, just that investigators have some help that goes beyond their own eyes.

For example, tracking software provides real time alerts through e-mail and cell phones, so authorities and investigators can be informed exactly where a suspect is headed. They can also be notified the minute someone comes within a certain distance of an already programmed location. This allows them to be ready to act when necessary. Timing is everything when it comes to law enforcement. We’ve all seen the television shows where a missed opportunity, means that the criminal is not apprehended. Well, that can happen in real life too.

When someone who works in an investigative capacity needs to know exactly where someone or something is, GSP tracking can be relied on to supply that knowledge. This type of information can be absolutely critical for sting operations and for solving crimes.

GPS Tracking Keeps Woman Out of Harm’s Way

We’ve mentioned that customers sometimes use GPS tracking devices to keep tabs on their spouses. As you can imagine, many of these situations are ones in which one spouse wants to catch another doing something dishonest. But there are situations in which families have used GPS tracking, not out of a desire to root out bad behavior, but out of concern for a loved one.

A real life story of a concerned family took place very recently when a technical support supervisor at Rocky Mountain Tracking got a call from a worried customer. This man was anxious because his mother was suicidal and he was not sure where she was. The family installed a GPS tracking device in the woman’s car to make sure that she did not do herself any harm.

The technical support supervisor was able to locate the woman’s car using NavIQ, a web-based GPS tracking software program. Rocky Mountain Tracking was able to keep both the family and the state police updated on the woman’s whereabouts. They were able to get to her before she could hurt herself. The family says that this was not the first time that they had made use of GPS tracking to find the woman.

When it comes to sensitive family matters, GPS tracking can assist in many ways. In this instance, having the device installed in the car meant that one man still has his wife and a son has not lost his mother.

For those who would say that GPS tracking devices are intrusive, I say that sometimes they can prevent horrible tragedies. This family is well aware that the woman in question has some things to overcome. For them, the GPS tracking device is one way of keep her safe, presumably as they work through some of their difficulties. What family wouldn’t want another chance to turn things around?

RMT Customers Unaffected by Switch to Digital

Perhaps while you were out celebrating Presidents’ Day on Monday, you attempted to use an old cell phone or access the OnStar system in your vehicle only to find that it didn’t work. Did you wonder why, or did you just chalk it up to the fact that technology just isnt’perfect?

There is a very good explanation as to why those devices and others that are still using an analog network didn’t function properly: the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) told carriers they could give analog networks the boot to make way for more and more digital services. If you have been using a cell phone or tracking system that is on an analog network, you probably realized that you were left out in the cold, as Monday was the last day to use many of these analog networks.

You’ve probably heard a lot about how people with older television sets will not be able to use those sets anymore (at least not without a converter) after the conversion to digital next year. But you may not have realized that the same measures that affect the way we watch television, also make a difference for other modes of communication.

Cell phone service providers have spent years trying to get customers to leave analog cell phones behind.

The good news for customers of Rocky Mountain Tracking is that they did not and will not experience an interruption in service because of the big switch to digital. RMT doesn’t sell analog devices, but you can be assured that if we did, we certainly would not have left our customers hanging. We look for and evaluate the latest tracking technology to keep our customers in the know. You don’t want to hear that your packages cannot be located and we wouldn’t let that happen.

The PT200 Package Tracker

Rocky Mountain tracking uses the latest technology to bring its customers the highest level of service imaginable. We search for the best, most innovative products and spend time evaluating each one to make sure that they fit our standards. In fact, Rocky Mountain tracking only ends up choosing about 2% of manufacturers’ products. We don’t just include any and everything and let customers find out if it really works. Rocky Mountain Tracking does its homework and you benefit from the results.

That is why we were so happy to announce a brand new addition earlier this month: the PT200 Package Tracker. Yes, the name sounds fancy and high tech, as the names of many such products do. But we can tell you, the PT200 really lives up to its name. It is the world’s only fully-integrated packages tracking system. It is also the world’s smallest to boot. And when we say small, we mean small, as in this device is about the size of a pack of gum.

Some of its features include:
-Real time tracking
-Long battery life (10-21 days of continuous use)
-Optimized assisted GPS location capability (whether inside or outside)
-No external GPS antenna, and more!

The Pt200 Package Tracker is bundled with our NAVlQ Web-based softeare and we think you’ll be pleased with the added advantages it provides. The size alone makes it a worthwhile product to have. We’ve talked about some of the ways you use tracking devices, including to track children and the elderly. The PT200 is small and unobtrusive, so it won’t get in the way. A child will hardly even know that it is there. And it won’t cause concern for an elderly relative either.

For delivering packages, it couldn’t be more convenient. NavIQ software allows for multiple PT-200 devices to be fully managed from one account,  so you won’t have to check different accounts to get the information you need.

Rocky Mountain Tracking in the News

Word about the benefits of GPS tracking devices is getting around. Rocky Mountain Tracking was consulted for and mentioned in a recent MSN.com article.

The article mentioned some of the reasons that a GPS tracking can help improve business and cut costs.

Safety
Drivers who know that their driving skills are under observation tend to drive more safely. Of course you cannot do anything about what other drivers do, but making sure your employees obey traffic rules will go a long way towards ensuring their safety.
This can bring savings on multiple levels. If your drivers are driving safely, they will be doing what they can not to cause accidents and this will keep your insurance premiums down. Employees who get into accidents need time to recover, so when they drive safely, they can remain on the job.

Discounts
Insurance companies are willing to give anti-theft discounts to owners who have installed GPS tracking devices in their vehicles. If you own a fleet of vehicles, your savings will be multiplied and you will notice the difference in your insurance premiums.

In addition to giving discounts because GPS systems can prevent theft, some insurers are also giving discounts for drivers who drive fewer miles. With a GPS tracking device installed, your drivers will be able to be much more efficient, and likely some will be able to shorten trips. This may make you eligible for a low-mileage discount for some vehicles.

Traffic Tickets
Companies do not install GPS tracking devices to avoid traffic tickets. Safety and efficiency are the vital issues that prompt owners to employ this technology. But…it can be an added bonus in traffic court. If your GPS tracking device gives evidence that you were not driving over the speed limit and the court accepts it, why not use it? This will save you money as well.

GPS Tracking and Construction Costs

Did you know that only 10% of the more than 70 pieces of construction equipment that is stolen from construction sites everyday is actually recovered?

You don’t have to just leave it up to chance that your valuable equipment won’t be stolen or that if is it will be found and returned to you.

Last month one builder found out just how much of a great value it was to use GPS devices. Thieves broke into a site where a home was being built and took valuable appliances. Because the builder has concealed a GPS device in one of them, they were informed of the appliance’s whereabouts. This made it possible to track and recover all of the devices and find the people responsible for the theft.

Surely the thieves were not counting on there being a GPS device in one of the appliances. They most likely thought that they had made a clean getaway. No doubt they were surprised to realize that they had been caught. No matter how careful a thief may be, a GPS tracking device can do its job and inform owners of their property’s location.

In that case the desired objects were appliances, but more often than not, thieves are after heavy-duty construction equipment. Equipment theft is estimated at between $300 million and $1 billion each year. That is a lot of money.

Your equipment is what allows you to stay in business. It is a big investment and you want to protect it. You can get location information, even if a thief cuts the battery cable.GPS tracking devices will not only help to ensure the safety of your equipment, they can also get you an insurance discount. Some insurers will give you a discount if you have tracking devices on your equipment. GPS tracking is great for you budget in many ways.

Use GPS Technology to Track Your Spouse

Love is in the air…Valentine’s Day is coming up and at this time of year everyone is thinking or talking about love and romance. But with all the talk of affection, there are some people who find this time week less than thrilling.

For some of you out there, this is also a time of puzzlement and confusion. Perhaps you suspect that the one you love… is loving someone else. There are ways you can find out if your suspicions are correct or if you’re in the wrong. Getting the details can provide relief or give you the impetus you need to make some important decisions.

A GPS tracking system can provide you with information about where your spouse or partner is going. If a GPS tracking device is places in an inconspicuous place in the vehicle that this person drives, it can provide information about where they are going to and how long they are spending at various locations.

You have to be careful to place the device in a place where they are not going to find it. If you know that your spouse places a book under the front seat, then don’t put the tracking device there. Make sure that it is in a place where they will not look.

Be aware that even if your suspicions are correct, you may not get evidence that provides a tell-tale location right away. For this reason, you have to be patient and choose a high-quality GPS device. Sometimes you get what you pay for and an inexpensive device may not work as well for as long as you need it to work.

You can get reports from the device. Reports can be delivered in several modes, including as e-mail messages and text messages. These reports will tell you where they went and how much time they spent there.

GPS Tracking and Employer-Employee Relations

When it comes to GPS tracking systems and employers there is a lot of talk about how they can be used to help make certain that employees are doing what they are supposed to do, when they are supposed to do it.

There is no doubt that many an employee has been caught going somewhere they were not supposed to, driving faster than they were supposed to, or leaving the car idling for much longer than is necessary or economical. And, yes, as an employer you may find yourself making an example of an employee through reprimand or other action once a GPS tracking system singles out someone as an abuser of company property.

It is also possible that you may find that there is some extenuating circumstance or reason other than flagrant rule-breaking that accounts for an employee’s lackluster performance. It could be anything, really. An employee who has started drinking a lot of water for health reasons could be stopping off to use the restroom more frequently. Adjustments can be made, but this is something that you wouldn’t know if you hadn’t installed a GPS tracking device in your company vehicle.

There is also another use for all of the information that you get with a GPS tracking system. What about using that information to reward employee excellence. If your GPS tracking devices show that there are employees who consistently complete deliveries on time, stick to the assigned route, obey the speed limit and do not waste exorbitant amounts of gas idling, why not find a way to let them know you appreciate their efficient work?

Now some people will say it makes no sense to reward someone for doing what they are supposed to do, and I can understand that line of thinking. There is not need for a grand ceremony to honor a person for performing the job duties they agreed to perform. You can, however let someone know that you are aware that they take the time to do good work.
