Using GPS Tracking to Bait Car Thieves

Posted on June 4, 2008 in GPS Tracking, News, When We Need Help | by RMT GPS News

When the police first started using bait cars in the 1990s, they had to have police officers in place to monitor the car they had set out to trap would-be car thieves.

Thanks to GPS technology that is no longer the case. Now they can use special cars that come equipped with GPS tracking technology. These cars look like regular cars that have been abandoned. They are often left in areas that have seen a lot of car theft activity. The difference between these cars and regular cars is that the bait cars have a hidden GPS tracking device that will let the police know where the car is being taken. These cars have other special features that the police were reluctant to reveal. They did spill a little and say that they can automatically lock the doors or turn the engine off it they wish. Why don’t they do this right away? Well, the thief may be leading them to a spot where stolen cars are dumped or stripped for parts.

But you do not have to be on the police force to make use of GPS tracking technology to keep your car safe. GPS tracking devices that can help you find your car if it should be stolen are available to the public. Even if you are not concerned that it will be stolen, you may be interested in finding out just where those who you allow to drive you vehicle are going.
