Officials in one town in New York state forecast that they will save $130,000 per year if their plans to monitor driving habits and vehicle usage get approved as they hope.

By installing GPS tracking units in vehicles and boats, town officials were able to pinpoint unproductive transportation routes. And no, the phrase “unproductive transportation routes” does not refer to employees goofing off or going to unauthorized places using taxpayer dollars. It refers to employees simply being unaware of more efficient routes they could have taken to get the job done. With GPS tracking, managers were made aware and they were able to re-direct employees to routes that saved time, gas and money.
GPS tracking really can help your organization to improve response time and customer service. Since you will know where your vehicles at all times on a real time map, your dispatchers can easily send the nearest vehicle when a new job arises. They will not have to call around and try to figure out who is where or have to calculate who will be able to get to a site fastest. This saves both money and time.
It is true that we have just recently seen a little relief in gas prices, but don’t be fooled. Prices are still quite high and gas will still take an unexpected bite out of your budget if you don’t enact measure to taper fuel costs.
