It is common knowledge that insurance premiums eat up a large portion of everyone’s income be it corporate or private. What may not be common knowledge is that insurance often offer deep discounts to customers who use GPS tracking technology as a safety measure against theft of property. Any item of value can be tracked using a tracker.
Items that typically have tracking devices added to them include vehicle, heavy equipment, jewelry, and even high end electronic equipment. The actual device can be made to look like almost anything, making it difficult for a thief to locate and remove or disable. In the event of a theft, the owner can activate the device and track the item using a computer with an internet connection.
The particulars of the signal can be turned over to police quickly and easily. Almost all police cars have an onboard computer that can link to the internet these days, which increases the likelihood that the item will be recovered quickly and safely. The odds of catching the thief are also increased exponentially compared to items that are not equipped with tracking or monitoring systems.
Insurance carriers around the world recognize these facts and the value of GPS anti theft devices in making recoveries of stolen items. For this reason, they are less likely to have to pay out large sums of money on claims. Unlike items that are insured, then stolen and never recovered, tracked items are almost always found and recovered before any serious damage is done.
Insurance premiums are based on the risk being taken by the insurer that they will have to pay out the value of the item being insured in the event of theft. Equipping valuable items with GPS anti theft devices reduce the risk that insurance carriers will have to pay on a claim. Thus, GPS is an investment that pays for itself in the savings on insurance premiums. Less risk translates directly into lower rates. These savings can be huge if the value of the item being insured has a very high inherent value.
Another facet of insurance on automobiles is the medical payments in the event of an accident. Tracking systems can often direct emergency services personnel to an accident scene even if the driver is unable to call 911 and report the accident. This timely response often saves lives and limits the effects of serious injuries, thus reducing the amount the insurance companies have to pay in medical claims. Tracking of vehicles may rate a discounted premium based on this fact as well as the reduction in property losses from theft.
