A bank was robbed recently in the Houston, TX area. The robber got away with several thousand dollars in cash, but he did not go far. The bank teller had placed a GPS tracking device in the bag with the money and the signal it emitted led police straight to him.
This is a very good demonstration of the value of GPS tracking devices for assisting police to recover stolen items of value. Vehicles are now leaving the factory with GPS technology incorporated into them. Private consumers may, however, wish to add a second device of their own to make it possible for them to track the vehicle directly. These devices can serve several different functions in a car or truck.
By using a GPS device, parents can track the movements of their teens as they begin to drive more without a parent riding along. These devices are capable of not only letting parents know where their teens are, but how fast they are traveling between points as well. This ability can aid parents in knowing what their kids are up to and can result in lower insurance premiums because insurance companies have already recognized the value of this technology.
Other businesses are also learning the value of GPS technology. Many construction companies have starting placing GPS tracking on pieces of heavy equipment due to the number of thefts these items experience each year. In the event a piece of equipment is discovered missing from a job site, the owner can track its location using the GPS device and notify police. Recovery usually takes place quite quickly and those guilty of the theft are usually caught.
The myriad uses for GPS tracking are still being discovered and implemented. Private individuals and businesses alike are learning different ways that GPS tracking can save them money, reduce thefts, catch criminals who commit thefts, and aid them in keeping track of people and assets either belonging to them or in their employ.
One unchanging fact is that GPS tracking has made its mark on the landscape of the world. It has many different uses that vary from saving lives in the event of an automobile accident to aiding in the recovery of stolen property and the apprehension of thieves. Most of the benefits are plain to see, and more uses for GPS are being developed all the time.
