As a Parent and owner of a driving school, I think this is a great idea.
The inexperience coupled with the temptations that exist for new drivers equal poor decisions that could lead to injury or fatal consequences.
We love our teens and try to give them instruction and ride along to make sure they are driving safely, but we can't be there all the time. With a GPS we can still play an active roll in their driving lives. I have even heard of a GPS that can prevent the car from being started again once it is turned off, this could allow the parent more control. I know it sounds like big brother but these are our children and they can be gone in the blink of an eye.
I whole heartedly endorse such a device for protecting our teen drivers
