It has long been known that one of the most effective ways to punish a teen is to take away driving privileges. This is especially true if the punishment is for breaking traffic laws that could have a direct impact on the life or death of the teen driver. It is also common knowledge that we all, teens and adults alike, watch our speed when we know that a police officer or other individual with the power to punish us for driving too fast is watching. Today, parents have that same power, even when they are not in the vehicle with their teen driver.

Today, parents are able to have a GPS car tracking system installed in their vehicles that they can activate when the teen driver leaves home and follow their movements during the entire trip. With the ability to update regularly, these devices are able to measure the distance covered in a set time and calculate speed. This gives parents the ability to know how fast their teens are driving and to punish speeding without having to pay huge fines issued by police.

In addition to saving money on traffic fines, parents are also realizing savings when they pay their insurance premiums. Insurance companies are recognizing the value of these car tracking systems as a safety factor in vehicles for several different reasons, not least of which is the ability to track and monitor the driving habits of teen drivers and make corrections in behavior even though a parent is not actually in the vehicle with the teen.

Most teens are rebellious by nature at one point or another, but one thing they all cherish is the privilege of driving a car. It is common knowledge that they will behave far better behind the wheel if there is a legitimate fear that that privilege is about to be taken away, or a large fine may be levied that will cause parents to take the keys. A GPS car tracking system puts parents in the passenger seat because the teens know that they are being watched and that parents can take the car keys away if speed laws are violated. The total effect is that many teens slow down and drive more sensibly and safely. Parents do not have to be physically in the car with the teen to be able to monitor and correct poor driving habits.
