GPS tracking has evolved into an incredibly useful tool that holds a wide variety of benefits. Vehicles are being equipped with GPS tracking devices to aid in recovery of stolen vehicles and to track employees driving company vehicles. Tracking of shipments and asset management are also common uses of GPS tracking.
Individuals are finding that they save a great deal of money on insurance premiums just by having GPS tracking devices installed in their vehicles whether they are ever activated or not. Insurance companies are willing to offer such discounted rates because they know that in the case of an automobile theft, these GPS car tracker systems make it possible for the police to acquire the location of the stolen vehicle using an internet connected computer and follow its movements until it can be stopped and an arrest made or the signal stops, usually at the location of a chop shop where several arrests can be made of members of a crew of professional car thieves. Timely recovery increases the chance of the vehicle being put back in the hands of the owner in an undamaged state.
Companies are finding that GPS tracking of company vehicles is not only saving them money on insurance premiums, but in fuel consumption, speeding tickets, and many other vehicle related expenses. Being able to track the movements of company fleet vehicles makes it possible for companies to limit or eliminate any overlaps in the territory covered by different vehicles. They are also able to determine which vehicle is closest to a location if a new call for service or parcel pickup comes in so that that vehicle can be rerouted to cover the call instead of risking sending a vehicle from all the way across town.
Employees spending too much time in one location and charging it to the company, when engaged in personal activities, or being in locations that are outside the boundaries of the territory that employee is supposed to cover can be tracked and proven, as well as proving that a service technician did or did not spend the billed amount of time at a location in the event of a customer complaint of overcharging.
As one can see, the technology of GPS tracking has grown into a system with a wide variety of benefits for individuals and businesses alike. Saving money in many different ways is the primary benefit of GPS tracking. Saving lives in the case of accidents is another. Whatever the reason that prompts the installation of a GPS car tracking system in a vehicle, the benefits will more than pay for the expense in a very short time.
