All large ships, whether they haul cargo or passengers, are equipped with GPS tracking devices that allow them to navigate accurately no matter how far from land or what time of day or night. These GPS tracking devices also provide a way to locate these ships in the event of an emergency, so that help can arrive in time.
Many people do not realize that they can have GPS tracking devices installed in their small personal or pleasure boats much like the ones commonly used in automobiles. What’s more, they do not realize that they can get many of the exact benefits from using GPS to track their boat as they realize with their car.

If there is an emergency on board, help can be summoned to the exact location of the boat without having to search a wide area of water to find it. This can be the difference between life and death in a medical emergency.
In addition to the above named benefits of having GPS tracking devices in boats, insurance companies will often extend discounts off the premiums paid to insure the boat if there is a working GPS device on board. This is because the insurance companies know that they can save a great deal of money in claims based on the use of the GPS tracking system.
If these benefits sound familiar, it is probably because most of these benefits are extended to people who have GPS vehicle tracking devices installed in their cars and trucks. The logic is the same for the insurance companies. They will not have to spend as much on claims because the odds of recovery are much better when a vehicle has a tracking device installed than not. There is also the added bonus of being able to get help to an accident scene, even if the driver is unable to speak or make a phone call, which has saved many lives.
