Victims’ Rights vs. Criminal Rights

Which side of issue do you most often agree when it comes to illegal acts? Are you an advocate of victims’ rights or criminal rights? Do you think that your view will change if you become a victim of a crime?

Scales of Justice

Scales of Justice

These questions can be intriguing to think about, but when it comes to those who commit crimes by taking things that do not belong to them, we get mighty upset.

Who is guilty? Is it the fault of the perpetrator and their family upbringing or are there other mitigating circumstances? Does it even matter?

Who has been affected? What about those who are the victims? Do they deserve special attention?

What about prevention? Here is where the practical side of this takes hold. Regardless of the answers to the questions above, an intense focus on prevention would help decrease the need to discuss the above topics. That is why technological advances like a GPS Tracker are important and are gaining in popularity and use both here and abroad.

GPS Tracking systems straddle the fence when it comes to prevention and prosecution. This is because they can be a deterrent when the knowledge of their use is known and also aid in prosecution by providing location and other information of an item that has been stolen.

What systems are available? With this technology you are able to choose between ‘live’ or ‘passive’ tracking. Live tracking gives you instantaneous, Internet-based tracking with three second updates. You can ‘see’ movement of an object on a map. This is as close to real-time as it gets. Passive systems allow you to place a device on a vehicle or other moving object and then retrieve it later for an historical ‘look’ at where it has been and how fast it travelled.

Both systems provide evidentiary support in legal circumstances. But, both can also aid in the running of a business. This is a more pragmatic and practical approach. Any business which requires detailed information regarding time, location and other valuable details will benefit greatly from these devices.

So, you can see that the ability to come down squarely on the side of the rights of owners of assets is what these devices do. It makes a difference when you have the type and amount of detail provided by these units because the ‘sting’ is taken out of theft attempts. And verification of tasks is broadened and made an integral part of business. Victim or criminal rights? It matters little with a GPS Tracker.
