Generally, the video games that kids tend to love are also those that keep kids indoors. This poses a lot of problems including increased obesity amongst kids. Even though some video games are challenging when it comes to mental activity, most of them fall short of physical activity.

Getting your kids to enjoy the outdoors is more important than ever before. The problem is trying to get your kids interested in outdoor activities, and less interested in computer and video game applications. Recently, a company called Geomate has come up with a solution to your child’s sedentary video game addiction.

The Geomate Jr.GPS is a type of video game that will actually encourage kids to play outdoors. This device leads kids on a virtual treasure hunt often referred to a “geocaching.” The Geomate Jr. is equipped with maps and compasses that lead kids around town searching for hidden items (all in safe locations that are kid-friendly).

The device has already been programmed with various locations throughout the United States, so you just have to choose where you want your kids to go. Large buttons and a colourful display make this device lots of fun for kids of all ages.

While it isn’t recommended that you leave your kids alone while they search for the hidden treasure, this device is also amazingly safe. In fact, the best part about the Geomate Jr. (from a parent’s perspective) is that it’s also a GPS locator, which means that your kids will be safely monitored at all times. If (by some chance) your child becomes lost, emergency crews will be able to locate them with the help of the built-in tracker.

The device itself is rather affordable at around $70, which makes it the perfect combination of a videogame and a toy for any child. You can also change the Geomate’s location in case your child wants to play while on vacation or away at summer camp. In addition, you can purchase an adaptor that will allow you to use the device in another country.

Kids will love searching for “buried treasure,” while adults can rest assured that their children are safely being tracked with the help of a built-in GPS locator. Not only is this toy entertaining, it is also safe. In a world where kids hardly get off the couch to enjoy nature, the Geomate is a breath of fresh air.
