The leasing of semi trailers is largely an invisible business to most people. Yet, when travelling the interstate highways of America, it is not uncommon to see such names as Timpte, Transcraft, Trail King, Doonan, Vanguard Vans, Fontaine and more. These manufacturers of high quality semi trailers supply the cargo carrying vehicles that move much of the nation’s consumer goods from state to state on a daily basis.

In a leasing operation, these trailers are leased out to those trucking operations that need to do the hauling. Rather than purchase as a capital investment, they choose to lease as an expense on their balance sheet.
This requires each trailer to be managed ultimately by the trucking company. But the leasing agent is not off the hook completely, because of the need to tie the physical asset to the money that is represented in the lease contract.
There is one way to best handle this circumstance and that is with GPS Tracking systems for these reasons:
Location. Need to know the location of a trailer instantly? You can using a GPS Tracking device that is attached to one of your trailers. The unit derives its power from the wiring in the trailer. Then when it is disconnected, it will still send a signal on the internal battery.
Direction. With a real-time GPS Tracking system in place, you can monitor your trailers as they traverse the nation’s highways. Locate them and verify where they are headed. Then attach a report to a file on that specific trailer.
Speed. Monitoring for speed is a good way to determine if the trailer is being abused. Appropriate action can be taken to make sure that your asset is cared for with the best observances of speed and road conditions as possible.
Total Mileage. How can you tell when it is time to take the trailer off of the road for maintenance or inspection? You can know without having to have your driver report on the mileage.
Asset management. In any multiple vehicle operation individual management becomes a chore that can throttle even the best of detailed oriented persons. Being able to combine tasks onto a consolidated interface and report on them for tracking purposes is invaluable.
Reduce your insurance costs. Tired of insurance costs eating into your profits? Using GPS Tracking systems helps lower your premiums by providing lower risk management.
Put all of this together and you have a fantastic management system for your trailer operations.
