Are Your Employees Wasting Company Time?

By Greg Bartlett

For your company, every dollar you have to spend needs to count. You’re trying your best to cut back on any unnecessary expenses, boost productivity and efficiency, and increase profit. Unfortunately, your employees do not always feel the same. You might be able to supervise some of them, such as those who work in your building, to ensure that they are using time profitably and not wasting company resources. But what about those who travel, for instance executives and drivers of transportation or delivery companies? Are they wasting company time?

With a GPS system, you can find out whether or not your employees are doing what they are supposed to be doing while on the clock. One company had suspicions about employees wasting resources and reporting time incorrectly, and when it began to use GPS devices to track its company fleet, it was able to monitor employee actions and reduce wasted time and resources. Using company vehicles and time in an appropriate manner is important to companies, and with a GPS system, the ability to ensure that employees are doing as they are supposed to be doing is now available.

One private investigator notes that he has often used a GPS system when employed by companies to track the activities of employees, particularly executives. He found that some of the executives he watched took advantage of their travels to play golf while on the clock, meet with friends, take three or four hour lunches, and other activities that were wasting company time rather than using it profitably and focusing on business concerns and needs.

Companies can also monitor employees through cell phones. Cell phones issued by companies are often used to track employees during working hours to ensure that they are where they are supposed to be and doing what they are supposed to be doing. Companies which have fleets, such as trucking, taxi, or delivery companies, often monitor their vehicles with GPS tracking. Whichever option the company chooses, it has the ability to monitor its employees and determine if they are wasting time, misreporting activities, or unacceptably using company resources.

Your concerns for your company’s profits need to be realized. In order to be most effective, however, your company is going to have to make sure all its employees are behaving appropriately, efficiently, and definitely not wasting company time. Using a GPS system allows you to ensure that your company resources are being used the way you intend them to be used – profitably.
