Cell phones are a part of just about everyone’s daily life. Most people carry a cell phone everywhere they go and many admit that if they lost their phone, their lives would be significantly affected. Cell phones are useful for keeping track of friends and family, storing information, surfing the web, and many other functions. But did you know that cell phones can also serve as a location device? All cell phones are required to have built in GPS tracking technology for aiding law enforcement and emergency service workers if needed.
Cell Phone
Many cell phone companies have begun offering tracking services to consumers as well as part of their monthly usage plans. For a small fee, you can use the GPS tracking technology that is already part of your cell phone to monitor movements of children and family members as well as to locate a lost or stolen phone.
GPS tracking works by sending a signal from the transmitter (in this case, your cell phone) to a computer or receiving device that pinpoints location. Data can be viewed in real time or as a report detailing signals sent at specified intervals over time. If the device is moving, it can also detail speed and direction of travel which is especially useful information in case of a police investigation.
Stolen cell phones can create havoc for you as the owner. A thief can easily rack up hundreds of dollars in charges before you realize that your phone has been stolen rather than simply left in the car. With GPS tracking, however, you can stop the thief in his tracks before he ruins your account.
By logging onto your computer as soon as you realize your phone is missing, you can immediately see whether you have left it in your locker at the gym or whether it has been taken. If your entire purse has been stolen with the cell phone inside, law enforcement officers benefit from the knowledge GPS tracking provides by being able to conduct a quick and accurate investigation, retrieving your stolen property as soon as possible.
Although cell phones are relatively recent additions to our culture, many people can’t imagine life without one. GPS tracking is one more way that your cell phone can make your life easier. Utilizing the technology that’s already there, you can give yourself the comfort of knowing that you have the upper hand in the event of theft and that your phone has just saved you much time and frustration during the recovery process.
