Accurate Location with a GPS Tracking Device

By Greg Bartlett

A GPS tracking device is certainly the tool of the 21st century. It has so many uses, from tracking employees to monitoring teenage drivers. However, GPS technology has one fundamental flaw that users will have to learn to put up with. A GPS tracking device has the inability to actually locate the person that you are trying to track.

As basic as this problem sounds, it can be easy to forget that the GPS tracking device doesn’t tell you where the person that you want to track is. It can only tell you where the tracker is. Some GPS devices make it easier to fool the person doing the tracking than others. For instance, if a husband suspects that his wife is on to his infidelity and he thinks that she has placed a tracking device in his car, he only has a few choices.

It is unlikely that he will go to the extreme measures of renting another car and leaving his own vehicle parked at work or wherever he is supposed to be. In order to get around this tracking, he will have to ride with other co-workers or have his mistress pick him up. It is still possible to trick his wife into thinking that he is still at work, but it is more difficult.

Cell phones, however, are much cheaper than vehicles, and therefore they are one of the easiest trackers to abandon. An unfaithful husband can pick up a second cell phone with prepaid minutes for $20 and leave his cell phone wherever he wants his wife to think that he is. This leaves his wife at home, blissfully unaware of his true location, because every time she checks the cell phone’s location, she finds that he is at work. The husband would have to be careful with this option as well, because if he left his cell phone in the car instead of his desk drawer at work, his wife might wonder why he spent the entire work day in the parking garage.

The only way to find the true location of the person that you are trying to track, is to have them wear the tracker on their person. This is a little difficult to do in many cases, because you have to get the person to agree to it and you might not want to admit that you suspect your husband of infidelity. But even if he agrees to carry the GPS tracker in his pocket, be aware that he could pull it out and stick it in his desk drawer at work at any time, and you would not know his true location.

The technology of a GPS tracking device is very beneficial to people and businesses for a variety of reasons, but they must remember that these systems are not fool proof and the only way to guarantee the location of a person without a shadow of a doubt is if you are with them.
