GPS Tracker Still Proves Effective

Recently, a registered sex offender was apprehended in Leehigh Acres, Texas, after he removed his GPS tracking bracelet. Even though the GPS tracking device was removed sometime in December of 2008, police were still able to track the sex offender with the help of the cut off GPS tracker.

Simply by noting the location of the felon when the tracker was cut off, police were then able to pinpoint the felon’s movements. Without the help of the GPS tracking device, police may not have known where the sex offender had been, or where he was headed. As it stands, the sex offender in question has been successfully arrested.

The use of GPS trackers to keep tabs on sex offenders has been the topic of much debate lately. While some people argue that trackers are a waste of state funds, others argue that trackers help to keep the general population safe from various types of felons.

This latest arrest simply goes to show that a GPS tracker can help authorities follow felons in more ways than one. Rather than attempt to chase down a criminal without any leads, police can now find felons with the help of GPS technology.

In this case, the GPS tracker was effectively cut off, though the felon was tracked and found with the help of the GPS tracker. Are GPS trackers a waste of money when it comes to sex offenders and other criminals? Not if you consider the many different ways that these felons can be tracked.

Definitely, GPS trackers are not a waste of money. Having to start somewhere is better than starting nowhere at all. The GPS Tracker may not pinpont the felon’s location in a heartbeat, but at least the authorities start their search at a sensible place, a place where the felon has actually been to. GPS trackers have proven to be a great help lately, no doubt about it.
