Being Protected by Your Car

You’re driving home late at night when you suddenly start to feel sick and dizzy, making it impossible to drive. You’re not sure what’s wrong, but whatever it is you need medical attention immediately. You pull off the road and wonder if you’ll be able to call home or an ambulance, and then once you do, whether they’ll be able to find you quickly.

In New York, a woman who was apparently drunk and under the influence of marijuana got disoriented, drove the wrong way down a highway, and crashed, killing 8 people including herself. People had called 911 to alert police about a car driving the wrong way, but police were not able to locate the vehicle in time to stop the accident.

GPS vehicle tracking can do more than provide you with information about where your car has been, what stops it has made, and how fast it was going. If your car is stolen, it can help you locate the car and recover it rather than having it become one of the many thousands of stolen cars which are never returned to their owners.

But GPS vehicle tracking can also provide you with personal safety. If you’re abducted, police can use GPS tracking to find your vehicle before your kidnappers get very far. Many GPS devices have a panic button which allows the user to call home or emergency personnel if the need arises, whether kidnapping, robbery, or even illness.

If you become ill or disoriented, perhaps from a stroke or some other medical condition, GPS vehicle tracking can help your family and emergency personnel to locate you before your condition causes an accident and becomes fatal. If police had been able to use the real-time tracking information most GPS systems offer to locate the New York woman’s car, they would have found her much faster– and they may have prevented the 8 deaths.

GPS devices won’t change your lifestyle. All they do is sit in your car and allow you to monitor the car’s activities. But in an emergency, whether from illness, abduction, or some other threat, GPS vehicle tracking could save your life. It can also protect people around you if you are unable to safely operate your vehicle and need to receive help before you, too, crash and injure or kill yourself and any passengers, pedestrians, or other drivers. GPS tracking will let emergency personnel and your family – someone who can help you – know exactly where you are.
