The August 2009 edition of GPS World’s Consumer OEM newsletter contains a great article on the medical benefits provided by GPS trackers. For having such a straightforward purpose, these tools are making a phenomenal impact on the world of medicine, and doctors in all areas of practice are integrating this technology into their field. The article notes a number of the most common uses.

One of the most innovative ideas helps with allergies, of all things. Everyone who suffers from allergies knows what it’s like to walk into a dusty room or by a patch of flowers and have to deal with the consequences. Now, doctors are giving allergy patients GPS trackers that allow them look back at their route during the day and note trouble spots that might have induced delayed allergic reactions. As the saying goes, if you get hurt in them there places, stay out of them there places.

Of course, GPS trackers placed on those suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia will give families some peace of mind. Instead of employing unnecessary or drastic restraining measures, doctors and families can know that if a patient happens to stray, they can be located and picked up quickly.

Also, GPS trackers placed in vehicles will allow rescue personnel to quickly locate and reach drivers and passengers in the event of an accident, giving medical first-responders the extra time they need to saves lives.

Like nearly every other industry, the field of medicine is quickly recognizing the benefits of employing effectively designed and managed GPS tracking systems into its day-to-day operations.
