Law enforcement officers work hard to keep dangerous members of society behind bars where they can’t be a threat to the innocent. When convicted criminals gain parole, it’s important that police be able to monitor their movements in order to make sure they haven’t violated any restrictions placed upon them. This can be a difficult and time-consuming job, but some law enforcement departments are turning to GPS tracking devices to help them in their quest to keep people safe.

GPS tracking devices can be attached to a bracelet worn by the criminal in order to keep police officers informed of his whereabouts. The transmitter sends periodic signals to a computer and can pinpoint location to within a few feet. Data can be viewed in real time or as a report over several hours. In addition, officers can specify a perimeter which, if crossed, will cause the transmitter to send an alert via email or text message.
Citizens often find it difficult to accept the idea of a convicted criminal being out on parole without a good deal of worry. GPS tracking devices can help put their minds at ease by ensuring that police officers can keep close tabs on each person wearing one of the bracelets. If the bracelet is removed for any reason, they will know that as well, and could immediately begin the search to bring the criminal in.
Safety for average citizens is of primary importance to law enforcement officers and with GPS tracking devices, they can ensure that each family is protected, no matter who lives down the street.
