Heavy Equipment Tracking with GPS Monitoring

by James Neely, freelance writer: click | HERE | to inquire about writing services

One of the most vulnerable businesses to theft and abuse are those that utilize heavy equipment such as highway construction businesses.  Since most of the assets are kept out of doors for long periods of time which includes extended durations of unsupervised times, the vulnerability is heightened over other businesses.

construction-equipment-backhoe

This is precisely why GPS Tracking systems are no longer just a nice add-on to this type of business.  They are now mandatory.  Here is how GPS Tracking can benefit these types of businesses:

Instant Location The stealthy nature of GPS Tracking devices help keep the perpetrators in the dark about their existence until it is too late.  Authorities can be called and notified as to their whereabouts instantly.  And with locating abilities to within just a few feet, finding them is not a problem.

Stretches Your Reach These GPS Tracking systems are especially valuable to construction contractors who are in the business of building roads and highways.  Most projects span many miles and cause companies to deploy equipment often in hard to reach locations.  This places the equipment out of sight and unless some type of signal is attached, theft activities can go undetected for months.

Any Application You can use these GPS Tracking devices on almost any type of equipment.  Whether it has a battery or not is not an issue.  Setting a dollar threshold for usage is a starting point.  The cost of a device is just a few hundred dollars, so anything of worth can be outfitted with one.  Some companies are even using them for the remote offices and equipment trailers that are used on construction sites.

Equipment is on a “Leash” The ability to run reports and generate instant feedback on equipment location keeps employees from having to track it down manually or calling everyone other employee to see who ‘had it last.’  In today’s lean organizations, this is an invaluable use for GPS Tracking systems.

Lowers Insurance Costs Insurance costs are reduced in the form of lower premiums because insurance companies’ liability is lowered.  Anytime this can be accomplished, you can always realize a savings for both the insured as well as the insurance provider.

These are the primary reasons for heavy equipment businesses to use GPS Tracking.  It makes sense for the business and helps keep perpetrators guessing which makes it a win-win for all involved.

GPS Tracking Devices Aid Research

By Greg Bartlett

GPS tracking devices have been used in businesses all around the world for the past several years. Tracking vehicles to keep company fleets running smoothly. This also helps to keep vehicles properly maintained and to cut down on vehicle misuse.

shopping-cart

Now the latest thing for GPS tracking devices in the world of business is its use for marketing and research. A marketing firm in California has decided to conduct research on the shopping habits of Americans, for example. They plan on attaching passive GPS tracking devices to grocery carts in larger supermarkets and warehouse stores. They will then be able to track the movements of shoppers without invading the privacy of the individual shopper. The GPS tracking device will tell them where the shopping carts go in the store and how long they stay there. This information will be very useful in the placement of items throughout the store. Store managers want to place items that they want to sell in a place that will grab the attention of the shopper as well as make shopping convenient for those who are just grabbing a few necessities.

So far the research of this marketing firm has gathered some interesting information and made a discovery. Roughly one third of supermarket shoppers are just running in for a few items. This is a huge percentage of the store’s business and yet these shoppers are continually overlooked. Stores tend to cater to the shoppers that are stocking up or reading labels and comparing items. They also try to highlight the newest items for those who are always looking for new and interesting things. This new information will be very helpful for stores and they will most likely be modifying their store layouts to make shopping more convenient and enjoyable for those faithful customers that just need a few things and would like to get on their way as quickly as possible.

This marketing research would have been very difficult to get if it were not for the help of GPS tracking devices which enable the stores to track carts and gather information without bothering the customers with polls or invading their privacy.

GPS Tracking Aids in the Fight Against Drugs

By Greg Bartlett

Police officers engage in fighting crime in a multitude of venues every day. One battle that must be fought on a continuous basis is the fight to prevent illegal drugs from being imported and sold across the nation. GPS tracking can help law enforcement officers discover drug hordes and track suppliers of illegal drugs, thereby aiding the fight against drug-related crime.

drugbust

In one recent marijuana bust, police officers were able to locate thousands of plants by tracking sale of suspicious materials to the source of the drugs. By placing a GPS tracking device on the purchased goods, officers were led directly to the place where the plants were being grown. Officers have also used GPS tracking to follow the vehicles of suspected drug suppliers, thereby determining whether they were visiting people known to be involved in drug trafficking or whether they were making trips out of the country on a regular basis.

GPS tracking transmitters can be discreetly placed on a vehicle or box of goods and will then send a signal at specified intervals which allows for monitoring from a remote computer. Location can be viewed in real time or as a report of movement throughout the day. The devices can also relay information such as number of stops and the length of each one, speed of travel, and direction of travel. Activities that look suspicious can be followed up with other means of surveillance. In this way, law enforcement offices are able to make the best use of manpower and time. Assigning an officer to follow every criminal suspect can result in many lost hours as leads dry up or trails are lost. In a society where every officer needs to function as efficiently as possible, GPS tracking can ensure that departments are using each hour clocked to its fullest potential and that citizens are protected to the fullest possible measure.

Drugs aren’t just a problem for experimenting teenagers. They endanger lives on a daily basis, yet they still command a multi-million dollar industry. The best way for police departments to solve the problem and fulfill their job of protecting citizens is to locate the source of the drugs. GPS tracking makes this seemingly impossible job reachable. As more and more police departments understand the value of GPS tracking, the possibility of stopping crime before it starts can become more reality than fantasy.

GPS Tracking and Rescuing a Motorcyclist

By Greg Bartlett

motorcycleriding

For anyone who travels, whether in a vehicle or on foot, it is common knowledge that there is safety in number. Whether traveling on vacation or hiking the Appalachian Trail most people recognize the wisdom in taking at least one companion along. Although many people, such as truckers, must travel for extensive periods of time alone, they may be among the best informed people on “safety in numbers.” Motorcyclists for many reasons usually travel in groups. One major reason for this is safety. Though some motorcyclists will venture out alone, there are many roads that solo motorcyclists will restrict themselves from traveling. For example, some soloist motorcyclists will avoid roads that are very remote; should an emergency develop in such an area emergency response workers may have a hard time finding and reaching the motorist before it is too late. With GPS tracking, however, solo motorcyclists can know that, no matter where they go, helpers can locate them in a matter of minutes.

GPS tracking dates back to the 1940’s during World War II and stands for Global Positioning System. Designed for the United States Air Force, GPS is the only fully-functional global navigational satellite system (GNSS) in the world today. GPS satellites communicate with GPS transmitters (also known as GPS receivers) to precisely calculate the navigational coordinates of the GPS transmitters. The location of a GPS transmitter can thus be accurately determined and recorded at any given time. From anywhere in the world, people in military, business, sports, law enforcement, science, and government administration use GPS tracking to locate and monitor any given subject at any given time.

As reported on August 21, 2009, a female motorcyclist was traveling alone in a remote, dangerous area. This woman had an accident on a gravel road out in a canyon - alone. She was uninjured, but the bike was ruined. Out under the burning sun in temperatures over 100 Fahrenheit, this woman could have been in some serious danger. She had planned ahead, however, and was equipped with a GPS tracking device that allowed her to call for emergency help and provide some local motorcyclists with her precise location. Thanks to GPS tracking, local motorcyclists soon arrived and provided this woman with the help that she needed.

How to Catch a Cheating Spouse

by James Neely, freelance writer: click | HERE | to inquire about writing services

In the world of GPS Tracking devices, the one product that outshines them all is the Tracking Key.  This small unit is completely battery operated and fits into the palm of your hand.  With the powerful attached magnet, it can conform to most metal surfaces.  It is weather-proof as well to withstand the elements.

spousesuspicion

The Tracking Key is a passive GPS Tracking device, however.  This means that you cannot track it from a website as it traverses the landscape on a vehicle.  It must be attached, and then retrieved so that the data can be downloaded from its internal memory.

How does one use a Tracking Key to catch a cheating spouse?

Vehicle Tracking for Location You can see where a vehicle has been driven to and where the stops are along the way.  You can even see the highest recorded speed of the vehicle.  This makes it easy to tell where a vehicle was and if that matches the story being told by the spouse.

Attaching to Vehicle With the powerful magnet attached, any metal surface will do, but it is best to keep the unit with an unobstructed view of the sky as is possible.  Otherwise the tracking data will be subject to loss and inconsistencies.

Downloading Information Once retrieve, the built-in USB port allows you to plug the device directly into a USB port on a PC for instant viewing.  Then, the unit can be erased so that it can be used again.

Information from the GPS Tracking unit can be admitted as evidence of actions in a court of law.  Catching a spouse in a lie is the first step down the path of a broken marriage.  These devices help you to be able to confirm or deny actions of others.  All things considered, a decision can be made about the veracity of the stories being told about the whereabouts of a spouse.

The Tracking Key does a great job as passive, standalone unit, but you will have to deal with the information that it provides in your quest for truth.

City Workers in Tennessee Are Caught Wasting Time

By Harriette Halepis

Recently Dyersburg, Tennessee, Mayor John Holden decided to install some GPS trackers on city vehicles. Prior to this installation, Holden was under the impression that talking to city workers about productivity was enough to ensure that city time would not be wasted.

construction-workers

However, after tracking certain city trucks for a short period of time, Holden found that city employees were not doing their part to increase productivity. In fact, the GPS tracking reports uncovered the fact that mot city trucks were left idling for more than half of an eight-hour shift resulting in wasted gas, funds, and city time.

Needless to say, Holden was “…very disappointed (Dyersburg State Gazette).” As a result of these recent findings, the city of Dyersburg is now considering installing GPS tracking systems on every city vehicle. GPS tracking systems are proving to be an effective way to track employees on both a private and public level.

As for the productivity in Dyersburg, Mayor Holden know that he will be “criticized” for his use of the GPS tracking systems, though he also realized that city employees have “a job to do.” It’s safe to assume that Dyersburg city employees will no longer waste city time or funds with GPS trackers following their every move.

This recent event proves to be a good example of the way that GPS trackers can change the level of productivity around the world. It can be assumed that other city mayors will take this lesson to heart by considering the installation of GPS trackers.

Vehicle Tracking System Vs Cell Phone Tracking

By Greg Bartlett

When people first consider purchasing a GPS tracking system, they have to make the choice between a vehicle tracking system and a cell phone tracker. At first this decision may seem to be a difficult one, but it is actually very simple.

There are few pros to cell phone tracking. A cell phone tracker has the capability to provide more detailed tracking, because the phone will be carried around by the individual instead of being left in the garage with the vehicle. Another plus to cell phone tracking is that people already own cell phones, so all that needs to be purchased is the monthly GPS plan.

driving car-vehicle

Unfortunately, with cell phone tracking, the negatives definitely outweigh the positives. Cell phone tracking does not have the accuracy of a vehicle tracking system, and you would also have to deal with the extra stress that a GPS plan would have on an already quickly draining phone battery. Cell phone trackers also have weaker signal strength and have trouble sending out a signal when inside a building, which makes it even less helpful.

On the other hand, a vehicle tracking system is very accurate. Although it does not have the ability to track the individual and will not provide helpful information when the individual is not driving the vehicle, it is still a much more reliable option than a cell phone tracking system. Because the vehicle tracking system does not perform other function as a cell phone does, the battery life lasts much longer and does not require constant recharging.

Although a vehicle tracking system might seem like a more expensive option, it is certainly the best choice. Vehicle tracking systems also provide a more precise location than a cell phone tracking system, which can only give the general area. A vehicle tracking system provides the location within a few feet which can make a big difference if you are trying to track a wayward spouse.

No matter what you intend to use a GPS system for, a vehicle tracking system is undoubtedly a better option than cell phone tracking. Although cell phone tracking may seem like a cheaper option than a vehicle tracking system, it is better to purchase a passive tracker, which will be cheaper in the long run because it does not require a monthly fee. This will allow you to track a vehicle for a week or two before retrieving the device to download the information.

What Kind of GPS Vehicle Tracking Device Do I Need?

By Greg Bartlett

GPS vehicle tracking provides a multitude of services to people in all walks of life. Whether you’re a business owner, a parent, or simply have a car you adore and want to protect, purchasing a GPS tracking system can help you protect your vehicle investment.

vehicleonroadway

Business owners who operate a fleet of vehicles can benefit greatly from GPS vehicle tracking. Monitoring information such as fuel usage, routes traveled, and stops made can save a company thousands of dollars each year. Employees who know they are being monitored will be more conscientious about how they are using the company vehicle and will be less likely to take personal detours or spend longer than necessary on any given job. In addition, watching the routes traveled to and from each job can help you decide whether a different route might save miles, gas, and money.

Parents of teens should consider placing a GPS vehicle tracking device in their teen’s car in order to help enforce rules and monitor driving behavior. Parents can stay informed on whose house their child is going to, whether they are visiting off-limits places, and whether they are driving the speed limit. Many teens who know their parents are monitoring them report that, rather than feeling spied on, they feel reassured that their parents care about their safety.

Average car owners can also benefit from GPS vehicle tracking. If you’ve just purchased the BMW you’ve always wanted, imagine how you’d feel to come out to your driveway morning and find that you car had been stolen during the night. You may not be able to prevent a thief from taking off with your car, but if you’ve equipped your vehicle with a tracking device, you can give law enforcement officers the information they need to make a quick recovery. The odds of recovery increase astronomically for vehicles equipped with GPS tracking devices as compared to those that are not.

GPS vehicle tracking can provide cost savings, theft recovery, safety and peace of mind for vehicle owners. Whether you need to keep an eye on one vehicle or a thousand, a reliable GPS tracking device can provide up-to-the-moment reports that keep you informed on the location of one of your most valuable assets. Invest in a GPS vehicle tracking system and don’t let your vehicles go unprotected another day.

GPS Tracking and Personal Safety

By Greg Bartlett

Everyday we are surrounded by situations that could present danger. Driving an automobile, walking through an alley, solitary outdoor exercise and many other circumstances could be potentially hazardous. GPS tracking allows you to protect yourself and give your loved ones peace of mind as you go throughout your day.

walkingteen

GPS tracking allows you to carry a transmitter which will send a signal at specified intervals to a computer. By logging in, your family can view your whereabouts at any given time or they can view a report of activities throughout the day. If you are late getting home from your morning run, for example, they can check to see that you’ve stopped to talk to a neighbor rather than worrying that you’ve been hit by a car.

GPS tracking devices come in many models. You can wear them as a wristwatch, necklace or bracelet or you can carry them in your purse or pocket. Some models can be clipped onto a belt or magnetically attached to you vehicle. Whatever your situation and tracking needs, you can find a model that can be carried easily and conveniently.

While none of us like to think of the myriad of potential hazards that surround us on a daily basis, we should take precautions to protect ourselves should one of those possibilities become reality. If the worst case scenario were to occur, could you rest easily knowing that your loved ones could be at your side in moments? With GPS tracking, you can ensure peace of mind for yourself and your loved ones, no matter what life brings your way.

Immediate Emergency Response

By Greg Bartlett

When you call 911, it’s because you need help now. You don’t need assistance in two hours, or even fifteen minutes, you need it immediately, because sometimes just a few minutes can make a huge difference in whether or not you’re alive.

ambulance medical emergency services

So what happens when you call 911, and the dispatcher has to find out which emergency vehicle is closest to you? What if the dispatcher doesn’t realize there is an ambulance just around the corner, for instance, and instead sends one that’s ten minutes away? Ten minutes might mean that your grandmother’s stroke turns deadly or causes permanent damage. You need help immediately, and the best way for that to occur is if the dispatcher knows exactly where each emergency vehicle is and can send the one closest to you by the fastest route. Cutting off a couple minutes or even thirty seconds can make a huge difference in an emergency call.

GPS monitoring of emergency vehicles would allow dispatchers to be able to know where emergency vehicles - ambulances, fire trucks, or police cars - are before a call is made. With a glance at the screen, the dispatcher can confirm which vehicle is closest and send it to you at once.

Furthermore, GPS monitoring can aid dispatchers and drivers in finding the fastest and most efficient route to an emergency call. Not only will it save fuel, but more efficient driving because of GPS monitoring will also save lives. Every second, every minute is precious in an emergency call, and the shorter the response time, the more likely a life will be saved.

One city which is using GPS tracking to monitor its emergency vehicles is able to see where each vehicle is, whether or not it is turned on, and how fast it is traveling. While the data GPS tracking provides can also be a helpful management tool by allowing the city to see if drivers are wasting time and resources, even more importantly the data permits dispatchers to find the closest appropriate vehicle and monitor it as it responds to the call. In an emergency, you need help at once.

In a city where emergency vehicles are equipped with GPS monitoring, the response time should be almost instant, saving valuable moments in an effort to get aid to you as quickly as possible. GPS allows for immediate emergency response, which can mean the difference between life and death.
