After breaking into a residence, two burglars got away with a television, some cell phones, and the home owner’s vehicle. For most of history, recovering stolen property has been a difficult undertaking. Little did these burglars know that the stolen vehicle was equipped with GPS tracking. The tracking company was notified of the stolen vehicle, and the police were put on the chase as well.
Crime Prevention with GPS Tracking
Thanks to GPS tracking, recovering stolen property is absolutely feasible. GPS stands for the United States’ Global Positioning System, which was begun in the 1940’s during World War II to help the United States Air Force. Today, in the early part of the twenty-first century, GPS has been available to the public for over twenty years. By using a system of radio waves, the satellites in the GPS network can communicate with a GPS transmitter (also known as a GPS receiver) anywhere on earth in order to calculate the precise location of the GPS transmitter.
Using this system, people – with a great variety of different occupations – are able to enjoy the benefits of locating any given subject, to which a GPS tracking device is attached, at any given time anywhere around the world. Beneficiaries of GPS tracking are not only military service men and women, but also business owners (e.g., wanting to track large pieces of equipment), base jumpers (in case of an emergency), boat racers (for safety purposes and also to precisely determine the winner), and owners of car rental companies (in case of a vehicle’s being stolen) – among many others.
The local police were able to chase these two burglars in the stolen vehicle, using the GPS tracking system. The ultimate show-down between the burglars and the police ended with one fatality and one arrest. Here in this account we are reminded that crime never pays. Everyone – at one point or another will answer for what he or she does. Thanks to GPS tracking the local police were able to enforce the law speedily.
