When people first consider purchasing a GPS tracking system, they have to make the choice between a vehicle tracking system and a cell phone tracker. At first this decision may seem to be a difficult one, but it is actually very simple.

There are few pros to cell phone tracking. A cell phone tracker has the capability to provide more detailed tracking, because the phone will be carried around by the individual instead of being left in the garage with the vehicle. Another plus to cell phone tracking is that people already own cell phones, so all that needs to be purchased is the monthly GPS plan.

Unfortunately, with cell phone tracking, the negatives definitely outweigh the positives. Cell phone tracking does not have the accuracy of a vehicle tracking system, and you would also have to deal with the extra stress that a GPS plan would have on an already quickly draining phone battery. Cell phone trackers also have weaker signal strength and have trouble sending out a signal when inside a building, which makes it even less helpful.

On the other hand, a vehicle tracking system is very accurate. Although it does not have the ability to track the individual and will not provide helpful information when the individual is not driving the vehicle, it is still a much more reliable option than a cell phone tracking system. Because the vehicle tracking system does not perform other function as a cell phone does, the battery life lasts much longer and does not require constant recharging.

Although a vehicle tracking system might seem like a more expensive option, it is certainly the best choice. Vehicle tracking systems also provide a more precise location than a cell phone tracking system, which can only give the general area. A vehicle tracking system provides the location within a few feet which can make a big difference if you are trying to track a wayward spouse.

No matter what you intend to use a GPS system for, a vehicle tracking system is undoubtedly a better option than cell phone tracking. Although cell phone tracking may seem like a cheaper option than a vehicle tracking system, it is better to purchase a passive tracker, which will be cheaper in the long run because it does not require a monthly fee. This will allow you to track a vehicle for a week or two before retrieving the device to download the information.
