Many people support the idea of attaching a GPS tracker to every criminal out on bail. An equal number of people do not support this notion stating that equipping every criminal with a GPS tracker is a costly endeavour. In addition, those that do not support criminal tracking are sceptical as to whether or not this tactic would even work.
Keeping Communities Safe
Well, a bank robber in Santa Clara, California, has just proved that criminal tracking does work – rather well. Gary Lee Damon is currently being held by Santa Clara police for suspicion of bank robbery. A bank’s video surveillance camera showed that Damon was at the bank in question during the time of a recent bank robbery.
Later, police confirmed that Damon was, in fact, at the scene of the crime – he was wearing a court ordered GPS tracker at the time. Of course, there is some speculation as to whether or not Damon actually took part in the crime – after all, one would have to be less than intelligent to rob a bank while wearing a police GPS tracker.
Thus, there is the minute possibility that Damon was simply doing his banking at the time of the robbery. While Damon is still under investigation, Santa Clara police are fairly certain that he had something to do with the crime. This example of criminal GPS tracking proves that tracking criminals is not a waste of money – in fact, it is an excellent way to guarantee public safety.
