The biggest deterrent in auto theft right now is a bait car that is outfitted with a GPS Tracking solution which allows police to disable the engine and then lock the occupants inside until police units arrive on the scene.

Bait Cars

Bait Cars

A major auto insurance carrier has supplied bait cars to the Charleston, South Carolina police to use as a method to arrest those caught in the act of the thefts.

This just bolsters the effectiveness of GPS Tracking units and their deployment in the prevention of crime in a proactive manner.

GPS Tracking units are inexpensive and feature rich.  They are good not just for bait cars, but for vehicle owners of any kind as well as businesses.

Here are the benefits of having these units in use.

Location, Location, Location

Need to know where your vehicle is located?  A GPS Tracking unit can point to the actual location within a few meters of where it is sitting.  With the ‘always on’ operating method and the internal battery, even if the power is cut from the main battery source it keeps sending out a signal.

Direction of Travel

If your vehicle should become stolen, you can track the direction of travel and report that to local authorities.  They can recover your vehicle within hours, not days, weeks months or maybe even not at all.

Speed

Those who borrow your car have a responsibility to obey all laws and operate in a manner consistent with safe driving habits.  You can track your vehicle by speed to make sure that it is not being abused.

Lower Insurance Premiums

Most insurance companies will give you a break on your insurance premiums.  They are willing to do this because GPS Tracking units reduce their risk of loss.  You benefit from the lower payments on insurance which is money in your pocket.

Putting all of this together, it is easy to see why a GPS Tracking unit is worth the money.  It will pay for itself with the lower insurance rates over time, so there really is no reason not to make the investment.  The money you pay for a vehicle either in cash or a loan represents a large part of your budget, why would you not at least consider the benefits of a GPS Tracking unit?
