You may have heard of New Media Marketing, but what about GPS Tracking Marketing? Blue Dot design firm (based in Minneapolis, Minnesota) has found a way to combine design and GPS tracking in order to formulate an entirely new marketing concept.
Office Chair & GPS Tracking
Blue Dot designs and manufacturers high-end chairs that usually appeal to a creative and trendy crowd, but the company is hoping to spread the word about their chairs using GPS tracking. In honor of the company’s first birthday, Blue Dot has decided to place various designer chairs throughout the borough of Manhattan.
Each chair will be equipped with a GPS tracker in order to track the location and movement of each piece. Blue Dot wants to find out what kind of people are attracted to the chairs, where they chairs will wind up, and what people like about the chairs.
In order to collect this information, representatives from Blue Dot will locate each chair at the end of a few months, and proceed to interview each chair’s new owner. Additionally, each chair will have a unique Twitter feed, so that fans of Blue Dot chairs can track each chair’s movement. Not only is this a great way to target Blue Dot’s customers, it’s also a completely innovative way to use GPS tracking technology.
What will Blue Dot uncover? The answer to this question remains to be seen, but the company is confident that they will learn a lot more about their customers through GPS tracking than through most other marketing means.
