Around Christmas time every year, stealing is at its highest. Retailers, who are often too busy during the holiday season to catch thefts, are not the only targets however. Every winter, thieves ruin the holidays for many families around the world by stealing presents and valuables from their cars and homes. This can be a very hard blow for many families who struggle to purchase gifts for their children during the holiday season. However, thanks to GPS tracking devices, thefts like these can be stopped.
GPS & Holiday Thefts
A holiday theft ring in Santa Cruz, California has already been shut down this year with the help of GPS tracking technology. A new Mercedes, computers, jewelry, clothing, and a digital camera were taken from a home in Santa Cruz.
Luckily for the family, their new Mercedes sedan had been equipped with a real-time GPS tracker by the car dealership. This tracking device gives an accurate location of the vehicle within a few feet, a fact that allowed the law enforcement officials to locate the vehicle almost immediately.
The stolen vehicle was in the parking lot of a beachside motel and it appeared from the contents of the motel room that the couple arrested had been involved in several other robberies in the area.
But your car isn’t the only place that you should consider having a tracking device. GPS tracking devices can also save your expensive holiday decorations from thefts.
Who would want to steal holiday decorations? Plenty of people. Each year, Americans spend more and more on Christmas decorations. Some families, municipalities, and churches spend over $300 on their outdoor decorations. These homes are very often targeted by thieves.
Statues are the most likely objects to be stolen from Christmas displays. Churches and municipalities from around the country have reported various statues from their crches stolen each year. These statues are often life-size and very expensive to replace. Many of the crches were handmade, which makes it impossible for the church to go out and purchase another one so they can replace the missing statue.
However, people who have had decorations stolen from them in the past are protecting themselves this year. It is common to nail or lock down Christmas decorations to make them difficult to steal. It is also becoming more popular to protect expensive statues and decorations with GPS tracking devices, which can easily be attached to a statue. A simple GPS tracker, costing as little as $200, can protect your Christmas festivities from being destroyed by thieves.
