Going on a trip?  Are you prepared for this trip?  If you do not prepare, then you are at risk for a disaster.  Recently, a couple when on a trip out west and followed the directions provided via a GPS-enabled cell phone and found themselves stuck in a snowdrift with little or no signal to help them.

Eventually, conditions improved and they were rescued.  But this story points out an important principle that you need to embrace when you venture out onto unfamiliar roads on a trip. Here are three things you must do to ensure a safe trip.

Prepare Ahead of Time

This includes preparing your vehicle for the trip, packing extra items in case you get struck and planning your route ahead of time.

Servicing your vehicle could help prevent break-downs in the middle of your drive.  Oil, tires, belts, battery and lights are all things that should be checked.

Extra items include blankets, candles, and reflective clothing or other items to help alert other motorists at night that you are having problems.

Mapping your route is important because you need to keep to main streets and roads.  Never venture onto back roads or highways that have little traffic.  GPS Navigation units are great, but do not always provide the best routes for you to take.  Know how you are going to get where you are going before you leave.

Use Your Head

Be careful from whom you take directions and advice.  What is easy to someone else might not be so easy when you try to apply what information was given to you.  This is especially true if you are trying to follow directions from memory.  Never put yourself in a compromised situation because of poor directions or the lack of knowledge of where you are going.

Use GPS Tracking

GPS Tracking devices do not offer advice.  They offer simple, straight-forward information to the end user as to the location, direction of travel, and speed of your vehicle.  This information can be helpful as you traverse the countryside on your trip.  Should you become stranded or lost, family members who are able to track your progress can help get you back on the right road.  Or, they can alert authorities who can then find your location and lead you to safety.

Rocking Mountain Tracking has the best line-up of GPS Tracking devices to meet any need.  Take a look at their products and options for the best fit for your business.  You will find knowledgeable sales persons in helping you get the best unit to meet your requirements.
