GPS, or the Global Positioning System, provides accurate, up-to-date information regarding a person or vehicle’s location.  This technology utilizes at three satellites in space to receive information and transmit it to receivers here on earth.  Receivers belong to a variety of “owners”-from the military, the police department, and individual owners within the general public.  GPS tracking devices are helpful in providing the location of important things to you, such as a child, a car, or an employee.

Still another important thing that you may want to track is your cell phone.  Cell phones are not just simply a means of communication any more; many, many people store the majority of their lives on their cell phones.  Cell phones provide a convenient way to manage all the important information that you receive on an almost daily basis.  Because of their personal value to you, you may want to consider using your cell phone itself as a GPS tracking device.

There are two basic ways in which you can use your cell phone as a GPS tracking device.  The first way is by making the cell phone into a personal security device.  This means that others can track your location as long as you are carrying the phone.  This would be important if there is someone in your life that needs to have an “eye” kept on them at all times.  This might include a young child walking home from school, a teenager who is driving on his own, or an elderly parent who has a tendency to wander.

Also, you can use the GPS tracking capabilities to track your actual phone.  It was recently reported on Monday, April 5, 2010, in Hendry County, South Carolina, that a stolen phone was tracked directly to a thief.  The phone’s actual owner partnered with the police, and together they found the phone using its GPS tracking capabilities.  Still another way you can use your cell phone as a GPS tracking device is to use it as a vehicle tracker.  In this case, you can actually install the phone-visibly or invisibly-into your car.

Either way, as long as your GPS enabled cell phone is turned on, it provides an easy way to track both your car and its occupants.  No matter which way you choose to use your cell phone as a GPS tracking device, it must be programmed with GPS tracking capabilities.
