If you’ve ever had a car stolen you know the stress, hassle, and heartbreak that it can cause. Not only does car theft put your family out of a vehicle, but it means tons of paperwork, phone calls from police, and days of waiting and wondering about the next step. In short: car theft wreaks havoc. The good news is that US car theft rates are on the mend, largely due to the improvement of GPS tracking technology to include anti theft devices.

Expensive car with GPSOver the past 6 years, the rate of car theft in the US has steadily declined. In fact, the first 6 months of 2009 evidenced an astounding 18.7% decrease from 2008. Apparently, car thieves are getting the picture that the risk is not worth the potential gain. The question is, why?

Let’s face it. If you’re going to steal something, you want to do it in such a way that you won’t get caught. When it comes to stealing cars, criminals have to ask themselves: what are the chances that the police will catch me in the act? While ten years ago it may have been unlikely that a stolen car would be recovered, things are different today. These days, may people have anti theft devices installed in their vehicles.

If a car has an anti theft device equipped with GPS technology, the thief who steals it will likely not get far. The tracking system makes it easy for police to detect the location of the vehicle, thus enabling them to quickly recover it and arrest the culprit. The system works by utilizing satellites to pinpoint the coordinates of the installed tracker. Within minutes of connecting with the GPS system, anti theft devices thus provide the needed information for simple detection.

While some thieves are getting smarter about GPS technology, the truth remains that the rates of car theft are steadily declining. And along with this decline, the popularity of anti theft devices installed in vehicles is rapidly growing. Obviously, Americans are realizing that prevention is the key to protecting their property. And while this may seem like an extreme measure, it is making a huge difference in the amount of car thefts that occur each year.  One tiny gps device can protect your expensive car. Anti theft devices make it possible for you to protect your property and give you the peace of mind that accompanies confidence in your vehicle security.
