This past Wednesday (December, 8, 2010) a car thief in Medina, Ohio, attempted to break into a car in order to steal a GPS tracking device. Presumably distracted by a stack of shopping bags, the thief stole the shopping bags instead of the tracking device. While hoping for riches, what the thief got was a glimpse into the Christian way of life.
The Cash family had left their car unattended while joining fellow churchgoers for a Sunday brunch. While the members of the Cash family were happily munching away, a car thief smashed the passenger side window of their SUV. Inside of the shopping bags that the thief stole was a stack of Bibles along with some Sunday school items.
The thief didn’t get away with anything of retail value, but the stolen goods will, perhaps, play upon the thief’s conscience. As Noel Cash told reporters, the thief “got Jesus” instead of her purse that was tucked underneath a car seat. The GPS tracking device that most thieves target was tucked safely inside of the SUV’s glove compartment.
While humorous, police warn all drivers that thieves often target parked cars. This type of theft can be dangerous if a person returns to her car while a theft is in progress. Police also warn that all items should be kept out of sight at all times. Noel Cash did well to hide her purse and her GPS tracking device, but the shopping bags on the back seat of the SUV are what really captured the thief’s attention.

Anyone who returns to a parked car while a theft is in progress should turn around immediately. Even though losing one’s personal items can be frustrating, losing one’s life over a simple theft is never a good thing. Instead of risking your life, contact authorities right away. This also goes for any theft that you, or others, may witness.
