GPS Tracker Finds Lil’ Waynes Stolen Goods

Posted on March 4, 2011 in Crime Prevention, GPS Tracking News | by Admin

February 18, 2011 probably started just like any other day for celebrity hip-hop artist Lil’ Wayne; however, it ended quite differently than expected. Lil’ Wayne’s trailer was moved to Citrus College in California after music video filming with the group Porcelain Black. A man claimed he was a dancer for the video and got into the trailer, stealing a laptop, a designer purse, tickets to an NBA game, a wallet, and other expensive possessions.

Not many years ago, police would likely have had to rely on insubstantial clues and spotty evidence to track down the thief. But with Lil’ Wayne, investigators had a different tool, GPS Tracking. Lil’ Wayne’s laptop was equipped with an anti-theft system which police were able to key into and quickly find the culprit, a man in his twenties. They promptly arrested him and recovered Lil’ Wayne’s possessions.

Of course, most of us don’t live high-profile lives like Lil’ Wayne. We aren’t earning celebrity incomes, and we aren’t constantly surrounded by expensive possessions and designer merchandise. We aren’t hounded by thieves who steal for the thrill of owning celebrity possessions. But almost all of us, even those tight budgets,  do have some valuable and treasured items, whether it be our laptops, smartphones, or Grandma’s treasured antiques. Just like Lil’ Wayne, we need to find a way to protect those possessions.

GPS devices may provide that protection we need. Similar to any GPS, the devices key into satellites orbiting the earth (the more satellites the better) and pinpoint an exact location. If an item is stolen, police or detectives can use the GPS embedded in the item to track down its coordinates, quickly recovering the item and often finding the thief.

Individuals have used these devices effectively for myriads of anti-theft purposes: protecting expensive jewelry, keeping I-phones safe, tracking down laptops, finding stolen cars, and more. Last year, one Florida couple even used the devices to find their stolen refrigerator.

Combined with an effective anti-theft plan (alarms, locks, surveillance, etc) a GPS can help keep your precious or expensive items safe. Practiced thieves can break through your most careful theft protection measures. Don’t say goodbye to your sports car, expensive kitchen utilities, or treasured heirlooms for no reason. Make sure you have a means of recovering your possessions.
