Golf is one of America’s most popular athletic activities. Millions of pro and amateur golfers all across the country practice their skills on a regular basis, hoping to improve their score and master the sport. They spend hours analyzing the golf course, choosing the right club, and perfecting their shot. And while practice does make perfect, practice plus a little help from GPS tracking makes a perfect golf score.

When on the golf course there is only so much about your performance that you can see. You hit a tiny ball and hope that it will reach the green where you can find it. The distance from pin to pin may not be available to you, and the distance from where you hit the ball to where it lands is even more elusive.
GPS technology makes it possible for golfers to analyze not only the positions of different holes on the course, but also to evaluate their own performance based on the range of their shot.
Following a match golfers typically go home and ponder the results. What could they have done differently? How can they improve? What should they change next time? For golfers carrying a GPS tracking device, however, analyzing their performance takes on a technological dimension. They are able to go home and upload all of their movements from the day to see exactly how far their shots reached. From match to match these tech-savvy golfers can see how they improved, where they need to push harder, and which holes proved the most challenging.
Some people have gone so far as to place GPS trackers inside of their golf balls. This allows the golfer not only to track the distance that the ball traveled, but also its trajectory in flight. Viewing the information provided by a GPS-tagged golf ball would make it possible for the golfer to analyze the effectiveness of his swing, the power of his shot, and how outside elements (i.e. wind, rain) affected the ball’s flight. Additionally, if the ball ends up in the woods, the tracker inside will make it easy to find.
More and more, golf is becoming a game of skill. The golfer’s athletic skills are of course a huge factor. But these days, his technological skills can give him a leg-up on the competition. Do you want to improve your game overnight? Use GPS and you will have the opportunity to view your every move and perfect it.
