In a world where car thieves are able to make off with a vehicle in a matter of seconds, car owners find it increasingly difficult to protect their investment. Every year, nearly one million cars are stolen in the United States. For their owners, the loss of a vehicle is difficult enough. However, for car dealerships, a theft can set back revenue by thousands of dollars. Fed up, many frustrated dealers are turning to GPS tracking for a solution to this increasingly expensive problem.
Every 33 seconds, a vehicle goes missing. Of these stolen vehicles approximately 58% are recovered. The remaining 42% remain in the hands of successful car thieves, leaving their owners with no vehicle and a big headache.
For owners who make the decision to install GPS tracking devices, recovering a stolen car is a simple matter. Utilizing the coordinates provided by the tracker, authorities are able to quickly and easily locate the vehicle and apprehend the thieves. No waiting, wondering, or scouring the parking lot for nonexistent clues.
In December of 2010 a classic 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport was stolen off its dealership’s lot in Columbus, Ohio. To this day, this burnt orange muscle car has not been recovered, even with a $2,000 reward offered.
Fort Wayne, Indiana was the site of another car theft, where 5 high-end cars were stolen from a local dealership. 4 Audis and a Mercedes, the vehicles were jointly valued at $175,000 – a major set-back for their Fort Wayne dealer. In both of these situations no GPS technology was present in the stolen vehicles, and the successful heist landed thieves with valuable automotive merchandise.
The presence of GPS technology in a stolen vehicle creates a far different scenario. In February of 2011, a running truck was stolen from its driver while he ran into his home to grab a cup of coffee. What thieves, Bernardo Lopez and Jonathan A. Aravel did not know, however, was that police were minutes behind them following the coordinates provided by an installed tracker.
Any dealership that has experienced a car theft knows the value of protecting its assets. Even a single theft represents a huge financial dilemma and a serious annoyance. GPS tracking provides an affordable solution for dealerships who are tired of taking chances with valuable vehicles. Never spend another sleepless night worrying about your lot. Let GPS do the work, and rest easy.
