GeoTours Offers GPS-Guided Tours For The iPhone

A new iPhone application, called GeoTours, is now available that uses GPS locator technology to provide guided multimedia tours for travelers. The tours direct travelers to local geographical points of interest and provides video, audio, text and image information about the destinations. The application is currently available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and can be downloaded for free.

The GeoTours application was developed by Geovative Solutions, based on a web application at geovative.com. The web application has been used by a variety of government and nonprofit organizations, as well as organizations within the tourist industry. This service is now available anywhere the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch receive GPS locator signal, and has been available for various other hand-held GPS devices for some time.
The GPS locator within the iPhone and other similar devices tell the application where the user is at any given moment. GeoTours will then provide some local tourist destinations for the user to choose from, or he or she can search for different destinations within the application. Most of the tours are free, but users can subscribe to the premium account for even more GPS tours.
This application is great for travelers and tourists, who prefer to wait until the last minute to decide their itinerary. It’s great for spontaneous exploration, as a person can wait until they arrive in an area to look for what type of tourist destinations are in the area. The application provides a preview of the point of interest, so the user can determine which destination applies most to his or her interests.
There are currently over 20,000 GeoTours offered by geovative.com and its affiliates. If a user can’t find a specific location or tour, he or she has the option to make a tour, which would then be available to anyone with access to the iPhone’s App Store. The customized tours are part of the GeoTours app, so they don’t need to be downloaded separately.
