Sex Offender Captured After Cutting GPS Bracelet

Law enforcement all over the United States have been using GPS tracking devices as a part of parole conditions for convicted sex offenders. Sex criminals are notorious repeat offenders and parole conditions have been developed to try to provide as many deterrents for repeat offenses as possible. Unfortunately, the device was not enough of a deterrent for Brian Addeo, who allegedly cut off his GPS tracking bracelet and went on the run, before being captured by Maine police.

Maine State Police report that Addeo was convicted of raping six victims during three separate incidents. While he was out on bail for these charges, he raped another four young girls and a young woman, only 19 years old. He served a prison sentence for these charges and was released in April of 2010, by a Worcester Superior Court Judge. His parole conditions included wearing a GPS tracking bracelet as a part of a lifetime community parole supervision.

Aside from Brian Addeo doubling his victim total while out on bail for rape, there were other signs that he wasn’t going to be successful parolee. In December of 2010, Addeo was arrested for violating parole, but was only held in custody for 30 days. He was picked up after trying to use a counterfeit $20 bill at a gas station in Grafton, Maine, where he reportedly lived at the time.

In a Home Depot parking lot in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Addeo cut off his GPS tracking bracelet and threw it in the back of a pickup truck. The incident occurred on March 11, 2011, triggering an alarm system that notified parole officers that the GPS bracelet was no longer attached to Addeo. He was then added to Maine’s Most Wanted list and was found at a rooming house in Augusta, Maine on March 16, 2011.
