Nahsville, Tennessee, Watches Gangs With GPS

Posted on April 4, 2011 in Crime Prevention, GPS Tracking News | by Admin

The city of Nashville, Tennessee, is currently experimenting with GPS  monitoring of recently released gang members. The ten individuals being tracked are repeat offenders currently on probation. The innovative system works by allowing the police detectives to view the parolees’ locations. This allows police to monitory suspicious activities and possibly prevent further crime. The satellite technology instantly alerts police if the tracked gang member is in a prohibited area.

The system will also allow police to find the tracked offender more easily if further crime makes more jail time necessary. Although this system is new for Nashville, similar programs used by other state or city officials have been successful. City and state officials hope the new system will make gang detective’s jobs a little easier.

The ten convicts being tracked have caused a lot of problems for Nashville police officers in the past. If the program is successful, perhaps it will discourage repeat offenders from further crime. Similar programs using these tiny satellite-powered devices have been invaluable in many criminal cases, and are helping to make many city streets a safer place.

GPS is used for business, recreation, and public transportation, just to name a few. People use GPS tracking devices to help keep their children, pets, and elderly loved ones safe. The FBI uses GPS to keep an eye on suspected terrorists. Law enforcement officers use GPS to follow paroled sex offenders. Again, these are just a few of many safety-related ways GPS tracking is used in the world today. Many cities, businesses, and individuals are consistently discovering the security benefits GPS tracking offers.
