Australian Man Caught Using GPS Tracker Illegally

GPS tracking devices are often put to good use. These technological wonders can help save lives, keep track of the planet, and provide a way for companies to save money. Every once in awhile, GPS trackers are used in a sinister manner. Take, for example, the case of an Australian man who used a GPS tracker to track his ex-girlfriend.

The Sydney Morning Herald recently ran a news story about a 53-year old man who couldn’t get enough of his ex-girlfriend. This man placed a GPS tracking device on her car, hired private investigators to follow her, and repeatedly broke into her home. Perth, Australia, police finally caught up with the man, and he will face a judge on May 3rd, 2011.
Stories like these may make you wonder how simple it is for someone to track your every move. Not too long ago, we posted a similar story about a police officer who was caught tracking his ex-girlfriend.
Even though it is illegal to track someone using a GPS tracker (and it’s certainly illegal to break into someone’s house on numerous occasions), the idea of keeping up with a person’s every move is just too appealing for some individuals. Thus, some people argue that GPS trackers are dangerous.
Yet, just as GPS tracking devices can be used maliciously, GPS trackers can also be used as a form of protection. Throughout the world, a number of dangerous criminals and sex offenders are constantly tracked with help from GPS anklets and bracelets. Further, carrying a GPS tracker with you can help law enforcement officials find you no matter where you may be.
Do GPS tracking devices scare you? Have you ever suspected that someone might be following you? Let us know what you think about stories like the ones mentioned above.
