The Long Beach Post reports that Long Beach will be the first city in the west coast of the United States to offer tracking of its buses via phone. Long Beach Transit (LBT), is using GPS tracking technology to track its fleet.
While cities, particularly in Canada, the Midwest, and the east coast, have been using GPS tracking for a while now, Long Beach’s recent announcement that they will be offering GPS tracking of their fleet is a milestone for the west coast.
By far the most common question the transit company receives by telephone is “What time is my bus coming?” according to the Long Beach Post. Now, thanks to the new GPS tracking technology, riders can call 562-591-2301. Once they call the number, they will be asked to enter the four-digit bus stop ID number. The phone line will then provide riders with estimated arrival times for buses.
“This much anticipated new feature is really exciting for our customers. Through GPS tracking of our buses, this latest technology provides a quick informational resource for our customers 24-7,” Mark Curtis, chairman of the LBT Board of Directors, told the Long Beach Post.
