Estonian Scientists Tracking Werewolves

Posted on June 20, 2011 in GPS Tracking News, Wildlife Tracking | by Admin

Estonian wolves have long been the stuff that stories are made of. The legendary werewolf tales seem to have originated in that part of the world. Perhaps that’s why scientists in Estonia have attached a GPS tracking unit to one wolf that roams Soomaa National Park. Then again, there’s a reason why werewolves can only be found in fairytale books.

As much fun as werewolves are, there’s a better reason why scientists want to track Estonian wolves. Very little is known about Estonian wolves. This is partly due to the fact that trapping, tranquilizing, and tagging a wolf is tough work. Wolves are quick, strong, and can be ferocious when trapped.

Scientists are hoping to learn about the feeding habits and mating habits of Estonian wolves. The information gathered via GPS will help scientists understand wolves. Needless to say, the possibility of learning about the mysterious wolf is exciting to all those who admire the strong and swift animals.

GPS tracking data can reveal all kinds of information about Estonian wolves. Including (though highly unlikely) whether or not these animals truly are worthy of the werewolf legend.
