Fairs often attract sex offenders. Not only are fairs crowded public places, but fairgrounds offer plenty of dark alleyways, children who are unattended to, and vulnerable people. While police do all that they can to protect fair-goers, it’s hard to keep track of everyone who passed through any given fair.
This year, the state of California intends to keep a virtual eye on all sex offenders during the annual California State Fair with the help of GPS tracking technology.
Already this year, one sex offenders was arrested after entering an area where children were at play. The state believes that tracking sex offenders during state fairs is the best way to keep these criminals away from children. Authorities have made a few arrests this year with the help of GPS trackers. One arrest included two sex offenders and one gang member.
The state of California has stated that there are 1,750 tracked sex offenders near the state fairgrounds. Police are keeping a watchful eye on all of these parolees. So far, the GPS technology has helped authorities discourage sex offenders from lurking near fairgrounds.
