7.2 Million Drivers Race to Beat GPS Arrival Time

Here’s a scary statistic: 7.2 million drivers attempt to beat the estimated GPS arrival time on a regular basis. Why the sudden need for speed? Drivers simply want to compete with their GPS navigation systems. While there’s nothing to be gained from racing your GPS, this trend has grown by leaps and bounds throughout the last few years.

A survey conducted by Salisbury Finance revealed that 150,000 drivers admitted to being part of collisions after attempting to race GPS time. Out of all the people surveyed, 161,000 drivers admitted to flashing the car in front of them in order to encourage that car to speed up – all for the sake of beating an electronic GPS tracking device.
Needless to say, this new trend is a dangerous one. Seemingly, many accidents could be prevented if drivers would slow down. There’s no doubt that GPS navigation systems are useful, but racing your GPS could be fatal. GPS navigation systems estimate arrival time based upon speed, which seems to be more than enough incentive for millions of drivers to put the pedal to the metal.
