The popular penguin Happy Feet was discovered this June, washed up on Peka Peka Beach in New Zealand, and brought to the Wellington Zoo. Disoriented, sick, and most likely scared out of his little penguin mind, he was nursed back to health while at the same time building a fan base.
People from all over came to see him, and named him Happy Feet after the 2006 movie starring an emperor penguin just like him.
His day to return home has come, and the over 1,700 people who came to say goodbye and good luck are able to follow up on his whereabouts thanks to a GPS tracking device placed on the penguin. This device was donated by Sirtrack, a wildlife tracking company, allowing the curious to watch his movements towards his final destination, the Aukland Islands.
