Anyone who rides a bus, regardless of your locale, understands that bus schedules are merely guidelines. No one can predict traffic, road, or weather conditions that may alter the time the bus actually makes it to its scheduled stop. OC Transpo buses are no different, and they have developed a texting service to make it easier to more accurately judge how many more minutes you have until you’ve officially missed the bus, due to be released in a few months.
Simply send a text message to 560560, adding the number of the stop you utilize, and the service tracks down that bus thanks to the GPS device on board which updates location every two minutes.
Now you know where the bus is, erasing any doubt as to whether or not it is going to be late. If this is the case, you’ll add time to your day which you can spend in other ways besides hanging around a bus stop. You’ll know whether or not you can wait in that long line at the coffee shop.
OC Transpo also offers alerts via SMS or email currently, such as delays, mechanical problems, detours, and more. There is no cost for this service, merely sign up at the OC Transpo website.

Hi Louis,
I just did some research for you, and it looks like the city of Ottawa has pulled the GPS tracking program. I’m not sure why this program ended, but you may be able to gain more answers from the Ottawa transit system. On a different note, I did a quick Apple app search for Ottawa apps this morning, and I did find a few interesting apps that will help you get around, so these may be worth checking out — just type “Ottawa” into the App store search bar. I hope this info. helps! Thanks for reading our blog!
Not exactly sure how this works…
“Simply send a text message to 560560, adding the number of the stop you utilize, and the service tracks down that bus thanks to the GPS device on board which updates location every two minutes.”
Can you give more details?
