Parents in South Florida have a new tool to protect their children from predators. A new GPS tracking device, called the Amber Alert GPS V3 allows parents to virtually monitor their children’s whereabouts. The device is powered by the AT&T wireless network, and allows parents to create geofences around their homes or other areas their children frequent. If the child leaves or enters an area with a geofence, an alert can be sent directly to the parents. In the tragic case that a child is abducted, the GPS tracking device can help authorities locate the child quickly and return them safely.
The Amber Alert GPS V3 is the best answer a parent can have to the question, “Do you know where your children are?” GPS tracking technology has helped many people recover stolen property. These devices are attached to most smart phones, and many notebook computers, tablets, vehicles, bicycles and pets.
It is certainly inconvenient to have your vehicle or notebook stolen, and even heartbreaking if your pet is stolen or lost. None of these examples even come close to the loss experienced when a child goes missing. Because this technology has been so helpful in recovering stolen property, it only makes sense that we would apply GPS tracking to our children.
This device not only allows parents to track their children, it can also protect them from unknown dangers. The Amber Alert GPS V3 integrates the National Sex Offender database, alerting parents when their child is within 500 feet of the home of a registered sex offender. This system also includes an SOS button, which allows children to easily and discretely alert parents if they are in trouble and need help. The alert sends the parent the exact GPS location of their child. The V3 also keeps track of where the child has been throughout the day.
Its dimensions are 1.94 inches by 1.94 inches by .94 inches, and is small enough to fit discretely in the palm of a child’s hand. The device costs $199, and requires an AT&T service contract, which begins at $9.99 per month. An additional $5.99 per month is included for the Predator Alert feature, and a minimum fee of $9.99 per month can be expected for text messaging. The cost of this device is a tad high, but would surely be considered a sound investment, should your child ever go missing.
