Automobile insurance can be very expensive. It is easy to discredit having car insurance in the first place, since you don’t get into accidents very often. Insurance companies demand high insurance premiums because automobile accidents can be very costly. Naturally, they do not want to be “in over their heads” when an accident happens.
What can you do to lower your insurance premiums? One way is with a vehicle tracking system. Vehicle tracking has made automobile insurance more affordable because your car is more likely to be found if your vehicle is stolen.
Vehicle tracking, also called GPS tracking, involves a unit being placed inside your vehicle. This unit uses global positioning technology to determine the precise location of your vehicle. The recorded locations can then be stored in the unit itself or it can be transmitted to a database or internet-connected computer using a radio or satellite modem.
One news article discussed the problems of families with teenage drivers. The parents were always worried when their kids were driving the family vehicle. Sound familiar? With over 3,500 teen-related driving deaths per year, it is no wonder that parents are often tempted to worry about their kids. How can parental worry and teenage driving deaths be prevented?
With GPS vehicle tracking systems, a parent can keep track of their child’s vehicle location and speed electronically. Several insurance companies are now acknowledging how GPS can lower their costs. In turn, they pass this savings on to you. These systems can actively monitor and manage their teen’s driving. It has real-time vehicle tracking, speed alerts and curfew notifications that can be sent via text or email. Because of these features, a parent can identify and correct their child’s driving before a fatal accident occurs.
Generally, insurance companies want to provide an excellent service to their customers. However, adding teen drivers to family plans can be especially pricey. With GPS installed in their cars, families can significantly reduce the risk of an accident by continuing to instruct the teen on his/her driving. It is a win-win situation, both for families and insurance companies.
In the future, GPS vehicle tracking systems will become more and more involved in protecting children from unwanted accidents. With just a small investment in GPS equipment, you can help lower your insurance premiums. It is impossible to be with our “high risk” teens (as branded by the insurance companies) all the time, but installing a GPS system is probably the next best thing (at least, according to many insurance companies)!
