By Greg Bartlett
Most people have lost something or had something stolen from them. When this is something – or even someone – that needs to be quickly recovered the best equipment and systems are important to have on-hand. GPS tracking systems make finding anything or anyone that has been lost a quick and simple process. Recoveries and rescues that less than fifty years ago would have been impossible have been made possible by GPS tracking systems.

GPS tracking systems were first made available in the early 1980′s and have been used to locate people and things anywhere around the world, tracking their locations, directions, and rates of speed at any given time. GPS tracking systems use United States military technology that dates back to the 1940′s to provide precise tracking data and have been made available for anyone to use.

Businesses of all kinds have used GPS tracking devices. Agricultural businesses use GPS tracking devices to identify and monitor cattle. GPS tracking devices are also used in the medical profession and in the sporting industry. These are just a few of the many ways GPS tracking systems are used. With the many uncertainties and dangers that this life holds, it may be wise to prepare ahead with a GPS tracking system that will help any search or rescue party on a mission. GPS tracking systems can help save lives and money – and recover stolen property!

A recent news article proves this point with GPS vehicle tracking systems.

As reported in the news on July 20, 2009, two stolen Mercedes were quickly recovered because a GPS vehicle tracking device had been attached to one of the vehicles. GPS vehicle tracking devices can be hidden in one of twelve locations in a vehicle, making it possible for stolen property to be kept under surveillance without a criminal’s detecting it. A Mercedes vehicle owner had needed repairs done on his car and had rented another Mercedes to drive while his car was waiting for repairs.

On a Saturday night burglars broke into the car owner’s home, stole the keys to both vehicles, and had the stolen vehicles put into shipping containers headed to Hamburg, Germany. The rented vehicle, however, had a GPS vehicle tracking device on it, so the GPS tracking company located the vehicle and contacted the police, who were able to notify officials in Hamburg and have the containers held there and then returned to the United Kingdom. On inspection, the car owner’s own vehicle was also found in one of the containers. This speedy recovery was only made possible because of a GPS vehicle tracking system!

by James Neely - freelance writer for hire

Daily news stories tell about vehicle thefts due to negligence on the part of the owner. Recently, in one small Midwestern town, the owner of a van left the doors unlocked as the vehicle sat in his driveway overnight. Imagine his surprise the next morning when the vehicle was stolen along with several hundred dollars of items inside – all because he did not lock the doors.

Most car manufacturer’s burglar alarm systems in vehicles must be activated via the remote door lock. This makes these systems almost worthless by inaction on the part of the owner.

A better tactic that can be used by vehicle owners is to have a GPS Tracking system installed in the car. This will allow authorities to track the vehicle to within several feet of its actual location. Or they can discover the direction of travel and the speed at which the vehicle is moving.

Saving money on car insurance is a reality, too. Insurance companies provide a discount on insurance premiums when these systems are installed and activated. The lower risk makes this possible.

These systems continue to work even if the battery cable is cut. Most GPS Tracking systems have an internal battery that allows them to remain active for a long period of time after power has been terminated to the device.

The added security and peace of mind that a GPS Tracking system affords the owner is worth the small price. Just a few hundred dollars separates owners from a more secure vehicle and a lower insurance payment.

Additionally, any driver who takes the vehicle on the streets or roadways can be tracked. This helps in making sure that the vehicle is being used properly and not abused in any way.

Teen drivers can be monitored for their driving activities. Older drivers can be as well. Keeping close tabs on the actions of other drivers helps reign in possible abuse and actually helps safety actions to increase.

The prospect of being tracked is not always welcomed, but it must be explained as proper if better safety and security are the outcomes of doing so. Teen drivers must understand that a level of maturity must be exhibited in order for trust to be gained. Once these new drivers have enough experience and have show sufficient reason to be left alone, then the decision can be made to terminate the tracking – but not for security purposes. That needs to remain a constant.

Make sure that you use a vehicles built-in security features and lock your doors at all times, but also, add a GPS Tracking system to your vehicle. You will be glad that you did.

By Greg Bartlett

Vehicle thefts are on the rise and law enforcement departments sometimes struggle with the best way to curtail the problem. Cars and motorcycles make likely targets for theft because they are high dollar commodities that can easily be resold. Venues that attract large crowds such as the bike weeks that take place on the east coast each year are breeding grounds for theft rings. Motorcycles can be stolen and dismantled quickly and thieves can sell parts on the black market for a quick profit. However, some law enforcement agencies have chosen to combat the problem by using one of the most effective tools on the market today: GPS tracking.

GPS tracking allows the location of a vehicle or object to be monitored remotely on a computer or other receiving device. The transmitter sends a signal to the receiving device which can be viewed in real time or as a report detailing location at given intervals. Other vital information such as speed and direction of travel or number and length of stops en route can be viewed as well. Officers can know for sure that the vehicle in question is the one that was stolen, rather than a look-alike, and they can follow its whereabouts accurately within a few feet.

In order to break up established theft rings, some police departments have begun using vehicle plants, known as bait vehicles, to attract thieves. These vehicles are generally high dollar options that would appear to be an easy target. By attaching a GPS tracking device to the bait vehicle, police can follow its progress after it is stolen with the hopes that it will lead them to the ringleaders responsible for recent thefts. The web based technology saves the department time, money, and manpower since multiple vehicles can be tracked by one person at a computer rather than by designating someone to tail each theft. Rather than relying on guesswork and a certain amount of luck, departments can gain the upper hand and go into each situation equipped with accurate information.

Law-abiding citizens shouldn’t have to worry about the possibility of theft each time they go to a special event. The GPS tracking used by law enforcement agencies helps make it possible for honest people to enjoy a well-deserved vacation and for police officers to perform their jobs more quickly and accurately than would otherwise be possible.
