Hurricanes and tropical storms are just part of everyday life in Florida. Houses are built on high foundations, windows have hurricane shutters, and building codes are high. Florida citizens prepare yearly for power outages and flash floods. They are always stocked up on food and water and keep their flashlights in easy-to-find places. When they hear that a hurricane is coming, Floridians shut down and unplug their computers, secure their boats, and bring all of their patio furniture indoors. Could more be done to help Floridians weather the storms that so frequently occur? Could GPS trackers help? Absolutely!

GPS tracking devices are small units that can be attached to a vehicle, object, or person to track any movement. Passive trackers record precise location, speed, and direction, and the information from these units can then be downloaded onto a computer and viewed. Real time GPS trackers send signals out to satellites giving the same information, which can then be viewed on a virtual map using any computer with internet access. These systems have been used to track high-value items that could be stolen as well as record record-breaking achievements and competitions. And now they are being used to help Floridians during a power loss.

Florida Power and Light, a company that services the South Florida area, is incorporating GPS trackers into their business. These tracking units will allow them to see where their service trucks are located at all times so they can send the closest one to an area of power outage. Adding GPS technology to their company will allow Florida Power and Light to meet the needs of their customers much more quickly and efficiently which will lead to greater customer satisfaction.

Customers will also be able to notify Florida Power and Light of areas that have lost power. Those who have lost power can use their cell phones to either call, text, or send an email to the company.

GPS trackers will allow Florida Power and Light and other utility companies to respond quickly to the needs of the community, no matter what the circumstances are. Responding quickly is very important, not only for customer satisfaction, but for community safety. When they hear of a coming storm, Floridians can rest assured, not only because they themselves are prepared, but also because they know their utility company is ready as well.

by James Neely - freelance writer for hire

It is popular for Moms to take their young children out for walks in their strollers. During nice weather you will find many walkers in parks and along pathways that are deemed safe. Nothing has ever happened from a safety standpoint, so we lower our guard and become comfortable that nothing will happen.

We see it all too often in news stories about victims who have been brutally attacked. No one ever thought it would happen in their community. These stories should serve as a wake-up call for each and every one of us to not only be aware of what is going on around us, but also to get extra help.

Making sure that Mom has a cell phone is a start, but should not be the end. Adding a GPS Tracking device to either the stroller, or a diaper bag would go a long way in helping track a person should something go wrong.

There are models of GPS Tracking Devices that use batteries and remain on all of the time. These models supply an instant signal which can be located to within a few feet of its location. That is better than any cell phone signal.
Should a problem arise and the cell phone be taken away or rendered inoperable because the battery is removed or the device is broken, then the GPS Tracking Device becomes the only lifeline available between the abducted and those seeking the whereabouts of the subjects.

The best thing for the abducted persons to do is to stay as calm as is possible and keep the GPS Tracking Device near at all times. Then, those loved ones who are attempting to determine their location can do so with the signal from the device and the software that tracks it on their computer. In turn, they can relay information to the authorities who can track them down.

It is not a perfect system, but then, one does not exist. GPS Tracking Device advantages far outweigh other means of tracking. Using them for personal safety is a good use. The cost factor is relatively low for the amount of safety that one gets in return.

The hope is that a GPS Tracking Device need not be put to use in this manner. But if a situation arises that requires the functionality that they provide, many people will be glad that the investment was made. It is better to have one and be safe vs. not having one and wishing you did.
