GPS Tracking Saves Money and Helps the Environment

By Greg Bartlett

In these times of economic duress, everyone is looking to save money. In addition, companies who have been forced to lay off employees need to find more efficient ways to accomplish the same work with a smaller workforce. GPS vehicle tracking allows companies to maximize the effectiveness of vehicle usage, in turn enabling them to save money, reduce man hours, and help the environment.

Go Green

Go Green

GPS vehicle tracking allows a business owner to monitor the location and routes of each vehicle being driven by company employees. By logging on to a secure website, he can view the current location as well as number and length of stops, speed of the vehicle, idling time, and fuel usage. An evaluation of this information provides ideas on how to be more efficient with the use of each vehicle.

Some employees seem to think that being away from the office or out on call means they have the opportunity to run personal errands on company time. Others simply don’t think through possible shorter routes or ways to conserve fuel. If each company vehicle carries a GPS transmitter, company employees can work together as a unit to create and implement a better fuel usage plan. Habits such as leaving the truck idling while unloading cargo, always driving the same route to a destination, even when a different route might use less fuel, and driving over the speed limit all waste fuel unnecessarily. When employees know they are being monitored, they will be more conscientious about changing these

Being Environmentally Friendly With GPS Tracking

By Greg Bartlett

The focus on environmental friendliness has increased in recent years. Concerns about global warming and conserving the earth’s resources have caused many individuals and companies to make efforts to be “green.” And for some companies, that effort is complicated. On the one hand, customers are happy if they know that the company they are dealing with is environmentally friendly. On the other hand, they might not even notice “green” efforts, efforts which can cost the company money and time.

However, there are options that can save company money and resources while helping the environment. With GPS monitoring, companies can monitor their vehicles, conserve resources, and provide more efficient service to their customers.

One way to be environmentally friendly is to use less fuel. Okay, good enough – you can walk to work since it’s just around the corner. But what about companies which rely on delivery? Customers won’t be happy if the companies send their deliveries out by foot, and foot travel can be very inefficient, so that’s not an option for everything. Anyone who has to travel very far will also debate the practical value of saving fuel over getting to their destination quickly. But companies can cut down on the amount of fuel they use while driving.

With GPS monitoring, the companies can track their drivers and help them find the most efficient routes, saving time and fuel that would be wasted if the driver doesn’t know the best roads to travel or has new stops added and needs to find the new most efficient route.

Companies can use GPS monitoring to plan the best routes and account for unpredicted stops along the way. Better planning means more efficient routes, and more efficient routes mean faster service, happier customers, and less waste of the earth’s resources.

GPS monitoring of vehicles can also assist companies in monitoring their equipment. Equipment which is used while needing repairs wastes energy. GPS devices can help monitor vehicles and other pieces of equipment, giving the company closer awareness and control over the condition of the equipment, which can then be repaired before it uses excess energy.

Being environmentally friendly, helping customers, and saving money and resources is possible, not contradictory. GPS monitoring will not only help your company become more environmentally friendly and more efficient, it will save you money by ensuring that your drivers are using company resources correctly and economically.

Use GPS to Monitor Driving, Save Money, Save Fuel

A GPS tracking device can not only help you save money, it can help you to “go green.” We at Rocky Mountain Tracking do not claim that driving itself is great for the environment, but we can say that safe driving goes a long way towards saving fuel and money. When you use a GPS tracking device to monitor the driving habits of your employees or your own driving habits, you will be able to see ways you can improve.

Speeding
When you drive really fast, you use more fuel. It is just that simple. Well, no not really. We all want to get where we want to go and we don’t want to get run over by other fast-moving cars. It is not likely that you or your employees will start to drive under the speed limit. You can however, stick close to it. Using the information from the GPS tracking device, you’ll be able to get a better idea of where and when you really put the pedal to the metal. This information can help you do more to get a handle on speeding.

Hard braking
sometimes it is necessary to come to a stop very quickly. At the other times, we end up having to stop quickly because we aren’t paying attention. when you retrieve information about driving habits in your vehicle(s), you can see just how often you or whoever is driving your car comes to a hard stop. Again, this will give you the opportunity to think about how you, your employee or relative can be a safer driver.

Quick acceleration
Getting into a car and taking off can be a lot of fun, but unless you’re on the Indy 500, there is no need to shoot out like a speeding bullet. If you or someone who is driving your car does this, you will want to be aware of this.

Visit Rocky Mountain Tracking to learn more about how a GPS tracking device can help you, your family or drivers you employ be safer on the road.
