GPS vehicle tracking is green? Well, perhaps most people don’t view it like that, but it does many things that are considered environmentally friendly. Vehicle tracking can cut down on gas consumption and it does help people keep their vehicles properly serviced by reminding them when it needs maintenance. But as the city of San Francisco is finding out, it can also help track your environmental friendliness.

The city is currently working hard to reduce their carbon footprint by reducing vehicle abuse, cutting costs, and decreasing carbon emissions. However, they are currently using a deficient program to track all of this for the 800 vehicles belonging to the city. The program is lacking a way to track mileage or fuel use, which is vitally important to keeping accurate records of their environmentally friendly efforts. The program also incorporates a large amount of paper documents, which is of course completely contradictory to all their hard work to make their city green. The city is also unable to track individual drivers, which makes it very difficult for them to track vehicle abuse.

Although the city of San Francisco means well in their attempts to go green, they have realized that they are not going about things the best way. The city is now preparing to make the switch to GPS vehicle tracking. They estimated that in less than a year they would have incorporated the new system. The city of San Francisco will soon be proudly sporting their new GPS vehicle tracking systems as an example to other cities across the country.

GPS vehicle tracking is the perfect solution for the city of San Francisco. One reason is that it will enable the city to keep detailed records of their fuel consumption, which will cut costs and reduce carbon emissions. Tracking each city employee’s use of the vehicles will also eliminate extra side trips of a personal nature which will save money from being spent unnecessarily.

The citizens of San Francisco do not want their tax money going to pay for a city official’s personal errands, such as a trip to the grocery store, so they will applaud the city’s responsible use of their tax money. Also, cutting costs can be difficult for any department or business to do, but a vehicle tracking system will show them more clearly where there is unneeded spending and allow them to save money.

Everyone today is looking for more ways to be green. One of our government’s primary goals is to reduce our nation’s reliance on fossil fuels, turning instead to alternative energy sources. Wherever we look, we see exhortations to recycle more, use less water, change our light bulbs, and choose reusable shopping bags, with the ultimate goal of being kinder to our planet and preserving our resources for future generations. While the current administration hopes to reduce or even eliminate the need for oil in our society, the reality is that vehicles will continue to run on gasoline for at least several years to come. Still, there are ways that we can reduce our fuel consumption and emissions in order to promote better air quality. One tool that has proven effective in this endeavor is the GPS tracking device.

The primary purpose of GPS tracking devices is to locate objects or people remotely. By strategically placing a GPS signal transmitter in company owned vehicles and monitoring the job site from his computer, a construction contractor can keep an eye on his heavy equipment after he has left the job site. In addition, however, many GPS tracking devices have the ability to monitor fuel consumption, speed, and idling time by sending periodic signals to a receiving device. Companies with fleets of vehicles can keep track of how far a driver goes, whether he maintained the speed limit and whether he left the truck idling during the delivery. Individual drivers who may simply be curious about their personal fuel consumption can give themselves the knowledge and incentive to seek alternate routes and find other ways to reduce travel time.

How much difference do these adjustments make? Statistics demonstrate that a 10 mph reduction in speed makes vehicles 20% more fuel efficient and that a fleet of vehicles whose drivers each reduce idling time by only 15 minutes a day can save hundreds of gallons of fuel each year. Employees are less likely to take the scenic route to a job or to run home in the company vehicle if they know the boss has installed a GPS vehicle tracking device, which means less fuel consumed during the work day. While each individual decision may seem insignificant, millions of Americans making one small decision to use less fuel each day can add up to billions of gallons of fuel saved each year. It’s all part of caring for our resources and keeping our planet healthy for the future.

What can GPS car tracking technology do for you? Well, it does save lives. It can keep your loved ones safe. However, in this trepid age of alleged global warming and environmental apocalypse, your GPS purchase can save the world. If the movie “Castaway” sent any message to the American consumer, it is that the mail system in this hi-tech world is still somehow outdated and unreliable.

While it is absurd to think that we can receive up to the minute information about anything in human existence, it would seem unfathomable that something as simple as a letter or package could possibly be misplaced. However, it is almost a regular occurrence for many Americans to hassle with a mailing company at least once a year over a package.

The average mail truck only gets 8 to 10 miles per gallon and so a misplaced or lost package only further damages the already deteriorating environment. The truck will inevitably not only have to travel back to its intended destination but its gaseous fumes were also emitted, obviously, on the way to the incorrect destination.

So, in an environmental crisis, could anything be simpler than GPS to salvage the environment? If just one GPS car tracking device in a one mail truck can prevent miles of carbon emission, just imagine what a worldwide implementation of GPS could do for our atmosphere.

Many options for going green are elaborate and expensive, like forking out extra dough to purchase a hybrid car that minimizes but does not eliminate wasteful carbon emission. Heating and cooling options can be meticulous and inconvenient.
