MapMyFitness, a top iPhone app amongst runners and bikers, has released an add-on for its MapMyRun app allowing fans to track their favorite racer in a marathon, and also allowing the actual racer to collect data useful for their next race.
Racers can track their time, speed, and distance as well as see the course map. Racing at your personal best? The app also tweets and updates your Facebook status for you, letting all of your friends know about your accomplishment instantly without even having to break a sweat (actually, you’ll probably be sweating somewhat. You are, after all, running a marathon. At least the status update is easy.)
It is a free app with just the basics, but if you pay $1.99 for the plus version, you can listen to music on your iPod while running or riding and tag any photos you snap along the way using GPS location data. Learn more about the iPhone app by visiting the MapMyFitness website.
